If They Were Gonna Hire Kenny

Granted. But Paynes main drawing point is that he will bring in top level talent. All I'm asking is IF he can't bring in elite talent then what?

He is The coach who has the potential to change the course of the D.J. Wagner’23 recruitment.

Thoughts on Kenny Payne to Louisville?

I think that’s a great question. The guys that I’ve heard he’s lining up as assistants - Milt Wagner and Nolan Smith - will make a splash with the fans but, no idea if they can coach X’s and O’s either. Supposedly there’s another assistant who previously (currently?) worked for Gregg Popovich.

Bringing in talent would be huge but I’ll say this - the last damn thing we need (or should want) is to become an effing revolving door of 1ADs like they have become down the road. That’s a big reason yut fans are turned off to the program and, turning on sweaty cal.

I think NIL again changes things. No doubt sure fire first round picks will go on to the league. But fringe first rounders will be much more apt to stick around. They can make nice money in college rather than risking playing for the Fort Wayne FireAnts (or whatever their G league team is).

Buying players errr recruiting isnt coaching. The traitor payne had his opportunity to be here. He turned it down to go buy players for the enemy. Let the clown go to GA or Mizzou or south America. Anywhere but the University of Louisville.
Top AAU coaches have already said they will send top kids to Louisville if Kenny is hired. He can develop players unlike Mack. His results are undeniable.

In all seriousness, looks like Payne is the guy (unless this is the biggest sports media cover up ever). Time to support the guy and hope he's who everyone seems to think he is. If the Cards get some good transfers and are competitive next year and go to the NCAAT, that will be a really good first year coming off of 12-19.

Well, buying players is essentially what college athletics is now.

Ghost: my suggestion about Pegues is now irrelevant, as it is official that KP has been identified as being chosen. However, I do want to explain my earlier suggestion. I will support KP 100%, and I know most all UL fans will join me in hoping for the very best outcome. The issue I have is with the timing of this hiring with the expectation for additional NCAA sanctions.

I appreciate that no one wants to wait and experience anymore delay in the resurrection of our BB Program. If we get what most think from the NCAA, we will be placing KP in a horrible disadvantage when recruiting. Wagner and others might love coming to UL, but are going to be discouraged by all responsible sources, knowing the exposure will be limited by the sanctions.

I believe we would be better off weathering this storm out before paying out big bucks now, and again later if KP fails as a result of inability to recruit over the sanctions. Pegues is a good man and would have at least delivered us to the other side.

Too late now, but that was the wisdom that I had in mind.

Look the way things are now, if NCAA hits us with sanctions, KP will have an escape clause, kids will be allowed to transfer. It’s the program and the freaking fans who suffer…

My concern is not with how KP lands, but rather the financial costs and further delay in UL a returning to relevance.

No one has a crystal ball that can show the future, but it does not take a prophet to see that UL a is in line for serious sanctions. Payne‘s performance could result in another coaching change that could only create further scarring to this program. Both UL and Payne would be better served by having waited until the sanctions could be identified before making the hire.

Disagree. It’s impossible to know when the NCAA will do anything. If nothing else this season has shown that it is best to proceed as if nothing is gonna happen (ie: Kansas, Arizona and Auburn). Furthermore, the NCAA changed its operating principles to say that current athletes should generally not be sanctioned for misdeeds that preceded them. So while the university may face financial consequences and the team may lose some scholarships and those coaches involved may get show causes, there is growing sentiment that tourney bans may not be part of the sanctions.

Im glad someone else on here has been paying attention to what the NCAA IARP process has been saying about possible sanctions going forward.

I am in the camp they won’t get a post season ban. It sounds like coaches are getting the hammer in this process which is exactly how it should be. The only way post season bans should happen is if active players are deemed ineligible.

I am still trying to figure out if the Level 1 violation actually holds up. It boils down is Adidas a booster? I think that is a stretch.

I'm just holding off with saying we wont get at least one. Only because we were on probation when Mack and Dino screwed us over with BS violations. However they did say preferably to punish the coaches moreso.

I think the NCAA will give UofL at least one post season ban. First, because they love putting the screws to UofL, and second for the reasons redfist said above.

Take that last paragraph and switch out Payne with Padgett… when we hired Mack!
