I like CSS but...

I know what you mean. We’d all love the perfect coach. Every game is a learning process.

the 4th & 14 decision, the two QB crap. Don’t like a lot of today’s coaching decisions. Frustrating.

Agree completely. On one hand Conley has played very well but tonight it just wasn't there for him, and he should have been pulled sooner. I give credit for this upset win but it should have been by 21 or more

Can’t really ask for a better coaching job than taking this team and beating UVA. We have 4 more games to become bowl eligible and the worst of our schedule is behind us. However, we can’t let up now. If we put forth that kind of effort every game we win out no doubt in my mind.

We paid CSS a very low salary by ACC standards. I’d extend him now. He’s a national COY candidate.

I questioned the decision to put Conley in at the time he did but others said Cunningham tweaked something again and was hurt...

MC has two weeks to get those ankles healthy again. He needs to have a chat with LJ on how to stay healthy.

Oh I have no problem with people questioning coaches but how about enjoying the win and saving that for at least Monday
Again, as I’ve previously stated the win was enjoyed and the thread was started DURING THE GAME. Nothing wrong with questioning a coach, a call, a ref, etc. I’m not a kool-aid drinker or a blind follower. Fans have a right to question. I’ve read no ground rules on this board about a 24 hour rule before critiquing the staff. But thanks anyway Barney Fife.

I think I'm in the minority, but I don't hate the call. I believe it was 4th down on VA's 36. I know a lot of people say punt to pin them inside the 10. But IMO, a touchback is most likely on a punt, netting you 11 yards. They were kind of in no-man's land.

Obviously it didn't work out for us so coach is going to take some heat.

That was my take on the decision as well.

You’re absolutely in no-man’s land on the 4th and 14. You’re choice is to kick it to one of the years best returners and hope to net about 15 yards, or go for it. He made the right call.

I'm fine with a coach showing the confidence to push the envelope and try things that are a little unconventional.

I'd rather have that than a guy who tries to "manage the game" and be close enough to pull out a win in the 4th quarter. No thanks...

The OP was saying exactly what everyone was thinking on both complaints. Once they took the sack I was OK with the punt. The punter has to execute though. He said it he played to the defense which was playing well. I think he goes for that in the Wake and BC game.

I also don’t mind using Conley. Look the only way to get him experience is to play him. Cunningham is injury prone. Conley has to get reps in meantime game time. With that said he was put in where failure was a real possibility with the field position.

Agree

Especially this year, because eight weeks ago many on here were predicting 2-3 wins.

His decisions have gotten us to five, and looking better every game.

I recall Charlie Strong going for a TD against USF on 4th from the one. A FG would send us to OT IIRC, but EVERYBODY was “with” him on the call....until they stuffed us for no score and we lost.

But....that set the “tone” of Charlie teams.

Satt is looking at a bowl with a team WE had ZERO faith in.

Let him do his thing. It’s worked so far.

Satterfield won against Virginia. A team 90% of “fans” had an “L” next to as the season approached or even leading up to the game. Ofc the fans can question every play that doesn’t draw success. Just as though I have every right to voice my opinion that some fans will never simply be satisfied with week to week improvements and a growing number of W’s.

For me, it feels great to be a Card on most Sunday mornings again. Coaching and play calling is the least of my worries. I’m too busy enjoying the win today and tomorrow will start focusing on the next opponent.

Coach is AWESOME and all football glory to him, but I would have punted there. UVA was really beating us at field position and that could have flipped the field a bit.

Agree there will be play calls that work and don't work.

That end around to Tu Tu sure did work!

So did just about everything the D coordinator called in the 3rd Q.

I think the bottom line is this team is already +3 in the W/L column and there's more W chances so I like it!

I like CSS. I like Lamp. I like Carpet.

I do not runs into the short side of the field. why? the boundary becomes a defender. just dumb. but all coaches do it for some reason and never gain a yard.

I understand what youre saying but not always true.
You have the defense covering the far side. Thats a long way to cover a play to the short side.

The good teams will break through, plus the fastest way is a straight path.

The 2 QB experiment has for the most part been successful except for today and today Conley was handcuffed by piss poor field position. As far as the 4th down goes, yardage wise is was not that big of a gamble, to far out for a field goal and not a lot to gain with a punt, so really perfect spot to go for it.

Both scenarios didn't work out but both were worthwhile gambles on Satterfields part in my opinion.

the only other option that would have been better was to run the ball and assure at least some gain. they were expecting pass and maybe a late draw, bootleg or option to get some more yards and maybe one breaks for the first but you've gained more for the defense to hold onto after downs turnover.

or maybe you just run the play from the original longest yard movie and we let their best defender run clean thru and we drill him in the nuts with the pass. just kidding but would make sportscenter highlights

i agree. MC is obviously a better qb but there are certain times against certain defenses the drop back pocket passer, conley, is more effective, especially if they are stacking the line. but i do think yesterday was not one of those times and Mc should have probably had the reigns more so in the second quarter.. MC's elusiveness was pivotal, more so in the wet.

The short side usually has fewer defenders with the far side, strong side, normally having your stoutest defenders. It’s actually a toss up in many cases. The key is executing your blocks. Our o line and tight ends have done a commendable job. They ain’t getting enough credit. Just an opinion.

“Never gain a yard”? Touchdown #2 was Hawkins running to the short side of the field. Touchdown #3 was MC running to the short side of the field. Maybe not so dumb after all.
