I feel sorry for Catfans

So you haven't done anything but perform to the level of your talent. While everyone else--with the possible exception of Duke--OUTPERFORMS when they make the Final Four.

And when did the Final Four become satisfactory for an 'elite' program? When you couldn't win the last game or two??

"Elite program', my a$$...

You're the only person in the world who considers a final four a loss. Regardless of talent.

He's an uninteresting, slappy apologist.

"Elite program", my a$$...

Your problem with me is that I root for Kentucky. Nothing more. Nothing less.

As a college basketball fan, your statement is really sad. Having a random one and done player is great, a roster full of them is just not college ball, that is more D league than collegiate.

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll be here to say it again... I would love to mix our incoming frosh with some upper class players. This year we actually have three seniors that get quality minutes (Mulder, Hawkins, Willis), two of those being from
Kentucky. We have sophomores that get good minutes (Briscoe, Hump) and obviously the four freshman. Now what was the problem again?

1/3 of those guys was a juco transfer, you have two Kentucky born bench players and him. Nothing wrong with this, except it will be back to senior day honoring only walkons again next year.

recruiting the top players is what Coach does best. He has made it clear that he won't push them to make a decision about the NBA he will just provide them with the best information that he can about how scouts/gms view their game. Some players get projected to be drafted in the lottery or even the later first round and in that case me or you shouldn't have anything to say about that as they are getting guaranteed money for most likely 3 years. The problem for me comes from the kids who would rather take a second round or not even be drafted rather than return to school.

I'm curious, why are you guys giving ThroughBlue such a hard time when he is being respectful?

I guess I understand it, being a rival fan and visitor, but I sure wish we would treat respectful visitors like him better here. I do appreciate how ThroughBlue conducts himself over here, and I've told him that.

Didn't you get the memo?

Cal himself said it's not about Titles, it's about how many he can get drafted.

That should be all you need to know.............but I digress o_O

I would expect more from the talent you have, but I expected more when we got CRP too.

It's the old adage that age and experience will overcome youth and skill.

I'd also have a problem with kids, who once they leave, will likely never come back to see the FANS. They may visit Cal, but they're developing zero affection/loyalty for the fans IMO.

That takes time, and these OAD players aren't giving loyalty, .... or championships.

Nobody other than Zipp has gotten personal with this dude - let's not get carried away and conjure up talking points that don't exist. People delivering counter points against the UK system are not giving the guy a hard time on a personal level.

For years this message board has been crawling with UK turds insulting the UofL program and mods let it go because it's a free board. That type of "moderation" is going to make "some" posters a little less open-minded to UK visitors than others.

That said, nobody has insulted the UK poster other than Zipp, and even Zipp's posts in this thread are pretty tame by his standards.

I wouldn't qualify zipps messages directed toward me as "personal". Zipp doesn't like Kentucky or it's fans that is fairly easy to see judging by his posts. I hate that we judge people and treat them differently based on something as small as what college sports team they cheer for. I think that is more a societal issue though.

To the posters who don't talk down or treat me any different because I am a Kentucky fan, thanks. I enjoy the basketball discussion whether it be from Kentucky fans, Louisville fans, or maybe even an Indiana fan every now and again

Truth be told - Willis' minutes are more a result of Gabriel's lack of defense / rebounding and Killeya-Jones being completely overrated and not ready to play major college basketball. Willis is only marginally better at those things that before this season kept him on the bench however this year, sweaty cal has to play him whether he likes it or not.

I'm actually relieved to see someone consider one of our frosh overrated and not try to spin it to be Cals fault.

I agree and disagree with your statement though. Willis gives us something that Gabriel doesn't and that's shooting. Gabriel had a decent shot on him but when Willis comes in the other team knows he is basically JUST a shooter and they will stick him tightly because he isn't doing much to create. (I would like to take this time to give him props for having 12 boards last game, keep that up Derek PLEASE) Gabriel has a little more of a floor game than Willis does.

That is true and it's good to see you aren't taking his posts personally, it's more of his standard response - agreed.

He's not as bad as the slappy drive-by shooters, but that's a pretty low bar. He's not, however, in the same realm as a guy like John KBA. TB's an apologist for LPT which a typical LPT fan probably should be. That adds nothing to our discussion here except an LPT counterpoint that we already have heard and know. (Like Final Fours are great...) So, from a value added standpoint, I don't know why he comes here except that he's lonely.

This sounds a little simplistic... But in the years I've posted here, I have seldom found an LPT poster who's worth much and who also has "blue" or some kinda LPT reference in his moniker. That logic doesn't always apply, but it works a lot more than not. Sure it's just a name. But when I see "ThroughBlue", I'm generally not surprised what comes after.

And in closing, Timeless zipp-ism no. 23: "You don't get credibility and respect because you have a username and password."

"Elite program", my a$$...

Well technically, if he's going to be credited for recruiting successes, calipari takes the blame if he brings a kid in who's not ready to play. You have to wonder how much actual talent evaluation is going on or perhaps, he's not a great evaluator of talent and relies on the rankings too much.

Willis' 12 board game was a complete aberration - it will never happen again. I hope for his sake he's enjoyed his time on campus because I think he would be a much better player had he gone to any of a number of different schools.

College roommate and great friend is from Burkesville.

Initials are JDB and he's got a Hardware Store. Pretty sure you know him. Fred Capps was a friend too.

The worst thing that happened to UK was having Monk score 47 against UNC. That made the rest of the team on alert that it's about the name on the back. Not enough balls to go around and not enough time to mesh as a team and brothers. I want to thank each of the UK Freshman since their dumb ass L's down picture hung in the weight room all summer at the Yum Center practice facility. Coach G let them take it down after we beat UK.

I'm pretty sure this particular group was already all about the name on the back - though you're right, that game among others had to drive that point home hard to Willis, Hawkins and Mulder.

Another season of "Fail and Bail" (tm) for yut fans - though supposedly next year's class is the "real deal".

If you have paid any attention to Kentucky fans opinions on the incoming class you would know that nobody outside of some of the biggest homers have touted it as the "real deal"

It's the top rated class in a class with little guards at the top outside of Duvall who is likely to not qualify.

I'm sorry I forgot to use the sarcasm font. I would have thought that the purple rolling eyes emoji would have conveyed that but...

I'm not ecstatic about next years class. I'm happy for what we got, because I can still remember the tubby and billy g years. I'm not jumping up and down like I was for AD's class or KAT's class. Without a couple staying from this year next year will be a FF team at most. Which by most teams measure is a great season. Stranger things have happened though. I guess that's why they roll the ball out.

I don't follow uk recruiting so I have really no idea about its class for next year but, I'd say it's shaping up to be even more of a completely new team than in most years with fox, monk, briscoe, adabeyo, willis, mulder and, hawkins gone and most likely, gabriel and diallo leaving as well.

Another season of "Fail and Bail" (tm).

Yeah, you're probably right about the whole new team thing, but I guess we are use to that by now or should be. Losing those 3 seniors will hurt us more than what people are thinking right now. I disagree about Gabriel and Diallo. Diallo I would say, almost 100% will be back. Gabriel to me has more of a chance of leaving, but I don't see it. He's no where near ready for the league, although a lot that has left hasn't been either. I think he will be a 2-3 yr. guy. If not at least 2, then he's a fool! Hell, BAM should stay another year, but I remember reading a story about his life growing up, and how they didn't have very much and how hard his mother worked to give them what they needed, almost like John Wall. So if he goes, I fully understand! If my mother worked 2 jobs to provide for me and I had guaranteed money to give back to her, "DUECES"!!! Don't blame the kid one bit, people forget this is just all a game, your family is the most important thing.

I know plenty of lifelong uk fans who will never get used to the amount of roster turnover or, the way sweaty cal cares more attention about draft choices than the uk tradition.

From what I've read, gabriel's family has less than how you've described adabeyo's and if that's true, you could certainly see him playing for money next year. The diallo situation is an odd one for sure. What 5 star kid wants to come to a school mid year with the intent of only practicing? One that doesn't want to get hurt, or possibly lose draft position by not performing as well as expected, and simply needs a place to hang out until he's draft eligible - that's who.

If that situation occurs - it would further expose that uk has become a de facto D league team and, what a stupid and flawed system the whole OAD one is.

Yea Gabriel certainly did have a rough child hood, you are correct sir from what I've read as well. I just don't see him taking the money like BAM probably will just based on his draft position. He's probably not gonna get guaranteed money, I could be wrong though, you never know what will happen when KIDS are involved. I still respectfully disagree with you on Diallo though. Just by the comments he's made on not wanting to play because hes behind and not ready, which I know goes both ways, like you stated not wanting to show underperformance. I honestly think he's made the decision to come early, work, get 6 months up on next years entire class, and then declare. I just dont see him benefiting from 6 months of practicing with no exposure from games helping his draft stock that much. I think hes made the right choice, he could stay and beat up on high school kids and gain nothing, or come early, prepare, and practice against one of the best PG's in college ball every day.

I do agree with the OAD system. It is flawed. If the kid wants to go out of high school, let him, Lebron had no business going to college and some other kids don't either. However, if you do go to school, you should be mandated to stay for at least 2 years. These kids go year round anyways, so they can almost graduate. Cal is in favor of the same thing along with other coaches, hes just taking advantage of the system in place, as is coach K, and Self, somewhat. People can say what they want, but any coach in the nation, including yours, would take any of those top 20 kids if they could, that's why they all have scholarship offers from them. We just happen to get more than most other schools.
