Based on the current state of athletics financials, you already know the answer. This will come down to how much of a positive impact he makes. If he has no impact, you're starting from Satterfield's base of $3+ million. And that's not nearly enough.

Football revenue is summarized below for most of the last decade. "GDR" is my shorthand for game day revenue, and is the sum of ticket sales, suite rentals, loge seats, parking, and concessions. The huge increase in total revenue during the time shown is largely due to our ACC affiliation which is theoretically intact regardless of who's coaching...

With the amount of total revenue coming into football, you can justify a lot of additional expense. Keep in mind that much of that money funds the other sports, more so now that men's basketball is languishing. IMO that revenue is misleading as far as how much money is justified to spend on Brohm.

GDR is where the action is short term. If Brohm can drive that number, the man should be paid. And GDR is down about $3-1/2 million since Jurich and Petrino left.

So if you pay Brohm what he's making now, we're down $6-7 million annually from the "unprecedented heights" that Josh Heird told me tonight he's confident we're returning to.

I'm good with the assumption that Brohm will return energy to the fanbase. With the gang we now have in charge, I'm not however confident that we will be able to cost justify his hire. You could argue--and the ACC would agree--that Brohm enhances the conference's profile and performance. But I don't think our true operating revenue will break even on a contract comparable to what he's making at Purdue. I hope I'm wrong...

Not gonna lie why would Brohm leave his job for us right now? He’s not going to get the same compensation, not even close. If he does, we’re writing checks that our asses can’t cash

We get back a net $2.5M on the buyouts (Satterfield/Cincy pays us $3.5M, we pay Purdue $1M). That cushions the first season salary a little at least.

Ultimately it all depends on how big Brohm can win. If he wins big, presumably revenue will rise. Whether we can realistically reach a level where we can pay Brohm, his assistants and support all other sports, then at least break even, I don't know. It seems that Zipp is saying "doubtful?"

I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions.

Has cutting non-revenue sports ever been considered?

Do we have fewer home games next year? We the short GDR budget?

As Purdue fan our revenue will only go up and besides being an alum he is not a great fit at Louisville.

Again, I just have to believe that if JB is offered and wants it,the contract can be structured much like NFL contracts that get restructured for the highest paid guys to be heavier on the back end.
I mean we've got guys on the payroll who'd like to do that, right Tom?😆

I’m betting it’s 5M at most. If he comes here - it’s not because he’s looking for a raise. It’s because he’s looking to make a mark.
Exactly! And making that mark will include whatever it takes to make it work.

Quite to the contrary, I believe he's the perfect fit mostly because he is an alum.
So are his whole family and He's also a Louisville native. There's all kinds of reasons he's a good fit. I'm just not that convinced his coming.

Because I'm a skeptic.. I heard this song and dance before. Plenty reasons to stay at pee-ewe. Plus they may make him a counter offer we can't touch. They have waaay more money than us right now. A lot of ground to be covered before this gets done.

I hope we get him because if not we are screwed..

Well 2 things PU does not have and never will or....his parents and living in Louisville his hometown. Family and location can trump money in certain cases. We shall see soon.

adn if he returns and wins he's a legend. btw louisville, for it's size, has some of the most diverse restaurant choices in the country, maybe the food is simply better here. also we have some of the most park space of any city in the country. and we are one of the cheapest cities to live in. so it has it's benefits

I will tell you one of the main reasons why and its not money. Oscar and his wife have to be getting into their 80's. How much longer are they going to be able to travel or watch their sons coach and have family nearby. The Brohms are a very close family and it is important to them, not unlike Scotty wanting to be close to his dad before he passed. I think it is a intangible that most fans overlook.

I think what we're saying is,this time around it won't be about money. If JB wants this job,he'll make it happen.
IMHO, I think a good part of this is that Jeff's mom and dad have to be close or are in their 80's now. They are a very close family and who wouldn't want their parents to be able to come to their games. West Liberty is not an easy place to travel to.

It's always about money.. He's not coming here for less $$$$$$$
Satterfield took less money. Obviously different circumstances between the two but, people make decisions for all sorts of reasons beyond the zeroes.

And FWIW - That’s not what has been relayed to me by people close to him. He’s set for life as it is and being in the right situation is invaluable.

Yeah that is what I think as well and it will be in the 5-6M range. Keep in mind he has to have good assistants or it doesn’t matter. They pay in the 7-9M it won’t work.

I do think attendance gets a bump.

You're missing the bigger picture on this one I think. The Brohm family some of the most down to earth people you'll ever meet.
I'll reiterate, if JB wants the job,he won't hold this program's feet to the fire because of his love for the city and the program.

It's not about the money. The guy still has his Honda accord. His wife drives the nice car. He'd essentially saved and invested all his money because Purdue covers pretty much everything else.

The real question is: does UL want him if they can get a bigger name?

And if UL really wanted him at #1 of the list, they would have made an offer similar to Satterfield's terms already to be agreed "in principle" and Jeff's agent bangs out the details.
