Based on the current state of athletics financials, you already know the answer. This will come down to how much of a positive impact he makes. If he has no impact, you're starting from Satterfield's base of $3+ million. And that's not nearly enough.
Football revenue is summarized below for most of the last decade. "GDR" is my shorthand for game day revenue, and is the sum of ticket sales, suite rentals, loge seats, parking, and concessions. The huge increase in total revenue during the time shown is largely due to our ACC affiliation which is theoretically intact regardless of who's coaching...
With the amount of total revenue coming into football, you can justify a lot of additional expense. Keep in mind that much of that money funds the other sports, more so now that men's basketball is languishing. IMO that revenue is misleading as far as how much money is justified to spend on Brohm.
GDR is where the action is short term. If Brohm can drive that number, the man should be paid. And GDR is down about $3-1/2 million since Jurich and Petrino left.
So if you pay Brohm what he's making now, we're down $6-7 million annually from the "unprecedented heights" that Josh Heird told me tonight he's confident we're returning to.
I'm good with the assumption that Brohm will return energy to the fanbase. With the gang we now have in charge, I'm not however confident that we will be able to cost justify his hire. You could argue--and the ACC would agree--that Brohm enhances the conference's profile and performance. But I don't think our true operating revenue will break even on a contract comparable to what he's making at Purdue. I hope I'm wrong...
