2012: 2-10 record and a preseason #50 recruiting class. That's where UK was before he got there
2013: 2-10 record and a preseason #34 recruiting class
2014: 5-7 record and a preseason #23 recruiting class
2015: 5-7 record and a preseason #38 recruiting class
2016: 7-5 regular season, a loss in a New Years Bowl game, and a preseason #31 recruiting class
2017: #26 Preseason Recruiting class and a team returning quite a bit of talent.
(I based the recruiting classes on the 247 ranking I could find, could not tell which were the composite and the actual 247 rankings)
To me, that looks like progress.
UK went 4-6 against bowl eligible teams in 2016
UofL went 4-4 against bowl eligible teams in 2016
So, lets not get into the who had a tough schedule or not. Louisville's only big win was at home against FSU...who you all beat by like 50...and on that same field Kentucky beat that UofL team. Take the UofL name of the jersey, UK beat a #11 team that was a playoff contender with the Heisman trophy winner...ON THE ROAD. Stoops has a win against a ranked team on the road..does Petrino have that? Now Petrino is a million times better coach forsure, but quit acting like Stoops did not accomplish anything this season.
I understand its anti-UK everything around these parts, but UK is a much better program than when Stoops took over. There is much better talent and the record has improved. Maybe they jumped the gun on the contract extension, but to say he has not made a lot of progress at Kentucky shows ignorance of the game of football.
But then again, I guess its a "stay tuned" type of argument. Neither side is right or wrong yet....but you cannot base Stoops' future success or failure on the history of the program. Stoops is not a Petrino, but he is far better than a Joker or Kragthorpe.
