The fighting Nick Saban’s seem to have plucked our best receiver. The portal giveth and taketh away.

Nothing you can do. I am not sure how coaches manage rosters. Coaches shouldn’t complain either because they are no different.

He goes to Alabama see if he starts if he does it was a good choice by him.

Just goes to show, no matter how "good" us, or 45 other P5 schools recruit, the "pecking order" will keep us "in our place". If we get them, and they pan out, the blue bloods will come after them.

Our NIL better be strong because it's our only shot.

And this Portal needs management, and control if there is to be any semblance of parity. Transferring any time is BS.

I believe this is shaking down how the people high up want it, the top programs getting what they want.

Still gotta play the games though. Some programs have all the advantages you could ask for and still no guarantees (Hi Texas!)

We did see Cincy break through year one of all this.

“And you can also get players to get in the transfer portal to see if they can get more someplace else than they can get at your place." No Mr.Saban you are actually not supposed to get players to go in the portal. This guy told on himself. Doesn’t matter though everyone knows it’s happening.

If he flew the coop while being poached by Bama he never deserved to wear the #8!
IMO the #8 should be retired by the ville!!!
Number 8 is retired. Bama recruiting our players before they are in the portal is straight up cheating. Sports have become interesting because of that. Athletic Depts should lose non profit status, as all AD are totally all about the 💰
.

The rules are for some, not for all. It is evident to me that over the last leaf century, virtually all schools have coaches and alumni participating in some level of NCAA violations. Seldom do the events rise to formal allegations, and subsequent punishment. The greatest irony here, is that NIL makes it legitimate to compensate players, when the NCAA rules have long held as a serious violation. I continue to believe that it is only a matter of time before the P5 conference schools leave the NCAA in favor of creating their own organization; one where the vast majority of NCAA a rules are eliminated.

Football is a monster. It is the college version of the MLB. Small market teams have no shot.

NIL for basketball is a game changer. Not so much for football. Louisville will always be outspent. Until a recruiting class is signed no reason to get excited. There is a clear pecking order. When teams higher in the pecking order need a position filled they will come picking/paying.

At some point NCAA is going to have to step in and cap a teams (not players) NIL spend. If they don’t then we will never see a shift.

But maybe this is what the NCAA wants?

They don’t control football so it is more what the TV wants. The NCAA—technically the schools should want more parody in football. It brings more eyes it just does.

I guess what does TV want? Aren't they forming a super SEC league?
Whoever is in charge, it feels like this is what they want. I agree with everything you post. Like always LOL!

And then, the “old school” $100 handshake and other traditional cheating methods, that so many schools were already so good at, will kick back in when the “cap” is reached.

There will always be ways to cheat “better”. Even after cheating is “legal” ;) ;)

Saban should be fired and Alabama fined/sanctioned but nothing will happen. I used respect Saban but my mind has changed. Had Harrell entered the portal freely then no problem (other than I would have been disappointed that he left), but this is unacceptable (though I suspect quite common).

From all accounts, Saban and the Tide staff have several other stud receivers looking to transfer into Tuscaloosa. I will be shocked if Harrell will see the number of snaps that he expected when he transferred out of here.

Harrell may not care how much he plays for Alabama anyway. If he hits a good NIL and actually gets through a season w/o injury he could probably get his shot at the combine.

You are right but a cap allows the bad cheaters to compete. Before NIL there were a lot of schools that refused to cheat. NIL opens the doors to legally pay the game. Now everyone is at the table. I doubt all 85 guys at the bigger schools are getting significant NIL. Let’s say Bama has 50 4-5 stars. They all don’t make the same. It would make it a much more competitive market.

Yes they would still get players in the black market but it would be more difficult and more expensive.

Without a cap the SEC and Big Ten will outspend everyone and it won’t be close.

You bring up a good point.

Bama, etc, may not be able to keep all those 4 stars happy and they may look for more $ vs being at their “favorite “ school.

Another problem is that schools can get around the scholarship limit. If I have 85 players on scholarship and I really want someone else I can have them “walk on” with a NIL deal that’s worth as much as a scholarship or more. There has to be a cap- preferably at least per team and preferably per player as well.

Capping the team will have the same effect as capping the players. Let’s say the cap is set at 8 million per team in Power 5 per recruiting cycle. Let’s say Virginia is willing to pay Manning 5M. Let them but now the rest of the roster is going to be pieced together.

By creating a fair cap system parody will come because talent will be spread out. Then bring on the 12 team playoff.

Rumblings are the stud receiver at Pitt is entering the portal. USC and Alabama are the possible spots. It is going to be tough to keep your best players.

College football is going to eat itself if they don’t figure out how to manage player movement. The SEC and Big 10 are going to dominate football because they have all the money.

The sooner they ruin it the sooner I have more miscellaneous recreational money ;)

Everything is about money

I may as well take care of me.

College football is turning into MLB. They better be careful or fans will stop coming because their teams can compete.

Absolutely hilarious Riley is taking a beating on the Addison deal and Saban gets zero flack for doing the exact same thing. The media will do whatever they can to protect the SEC.

Not sure about that, but it would not be surprising given the Tide’s obtaining several stud receivers several days after he transferred there.
