MSU only gave up 7 points on a fluke play to the Cats today while scoring 45 themselves. Makes you wonder what our defense (and record) would look like if we still had Grantham as DC.

They're the 6th ranked defense in the country through 6 games, and today's stats sure won't hurt that.Grantham's defense has been up and down this year. Today, they've played well. Other games, not so much.
Georgia and Auburn butt raped them.
Fans didn't like him and needed a scapegoat...
It makes me wonder what happened to Grantham’s defense here last November, giving up 581 yards and 41 points to the Mildcats on Senior Day.MSU only gave up 7 points on a fluke play to the Cats today while scoring 45 themselves. Point conceded. I just wonder if we would have lost to NC St. and BC with Grantham as DC.It makes me wonder what happened to Grantham’s defense here last November, giving up 581 yards and 41 points to the Mildcats on Senior Day.
Todd is a very smart guy and a really good DC. In fairness, all DCs seem to live week to week.Point conceded. I just wonder if we would have lost to NC St. and BC with Grantham as DC.

I really liked the way our guys responded after last week. A side note: BC just obliterated a hot Virginia team in Charlottesville today.
Really true about this current ACC. The Ga Tech-Wake Forest game and the Miami-Cuse games were both intense and fan worthy.I really think the team may have overlooked BC. If so that was a mistake. The days of looking past teams in the ACC are over. Any given Sat you can get beat if you don’t come to play

Grantham wasn't as bad as fans thought he was--nowhere close--and they overreacted. So did Petrino.
You got Sirmon. Enjoy him...
Right - because we all know that that the final score has everything to do with the defense and ZERO to do with the offense.Georgia and Auburn butt raped them.
Everyone's got their little piece of the action. And coaches hear and react to more than one might expect. Petrino was looking for a scapegoat too. The problem is Petrino doesn't know how to fix defensive problems, he never has. And fans are totally clueless as well even though many think otherwise. You make it sound as if the message board fired Grantham - is that how it went down? I know the guy took heat but it wasn't like the entire community signed a petition to get him packing?
I always admired Grantham's performance - the defense was top 20 with him every season.
And you got Sirmon too. Unless you aren't a Cards fan anymore?
His scheme against Kentucky last year was all I needed to see, 10 men in the box? I'm still not over that shit show of a defense. I also am not in favor of what I've seen from Sirmon, but our recruiting on defense has been not so good since Grantham arrived here and Sirmon doesn't have a team of Charlie's players like Grantham had.Fans didn't like him and needed a scapegoat...

Georgia’s effing good the last time I checked - Auburn too. Shit happens in CFB - and there are no absolutes. You might want to factor that into your equation.
No Peter, it’s not.Todd, is that you?

Love watching this.

He was already let go verbally and had checked out.It makes me wonder what happened to Grantham’s defense here last November, giving up 581 yards and 41 points to the Mildcats on Senior Day.
Duly noted.Hold it there. If you're implying I'm team Sirmon, incorrect multiplied by a thousand.
That would make sense if that’s true but wasn’t Grantham still on the sidelines 5 weeks later when we got steamrolled by LSU in our Bowl game?He was already let go verbally and had checked out.
Couldn't have said it better myself (although I recall trying a few dozen times!)Ok, I think I'm figuring out where you stand on all this - and it's a fair position, it's just taken awhile for me to get it straight. Then again, maybe I'm off target. Let me know.
You're saying our guy has his warts, just like any other coach. But, his overall results have been pretty good, and fans need to realize the fix that is required is not an easy one, and it's a fix that may or may not happen.
That's really the only valid argument--Wakeyleaks--I've heard for letting Grantham go last year. And "valid" in the sense that it had less to do with how he was coaching the defense...He was already let go verbally and had checked out.
Duly noted.
FTR, though I wasn’t in favor of letting Grantham go - I recognized that he had issues that needed to be addressed to justify his salary. I’m just pointing out that he’s better than sirmon by a thousand times and given that the two of them were apparently the choices - I’d take Grantham.
Georgia and Auburn butt raped them.
That's the great thing about statistics... A few data points don't lead you to false conclusions.Granthams defense gave up over 40 points in a loss to SuCkS AT HOME...
That's a good idea. Esp. since you should have no confidence in any other strategy at this point on defense...I'm not done with Sirmon yet...

My only retort to that is how did they work together for three years if their relationship was rooted in hate? The main reason he was let go was that Petrino and he hated each other. There are a variety of reasons how it came to that but the overiding thing is that both are hard to work for/with.
Like many relationships, it didn’t start off that way but as they say - familiarity breeds contempt. My only retort to that is how did they work together for three years if their relationship was rooted in hate?
How long did Charlie Strong and Mike Sanford survive together? Several months?...
