Very few graduate degrees can be completed in one year. Honestly, if the NCAA decides to add that completely unreasonable requirement to the grad transfer rule, it’s clear that they do not have the best interest of their student athletes in mind. In that case, I would almost certainly decide to do what I did with pro baseball after the second strike in the 1990’s: I would stop following/supporting college sports altogether.
There’s a much simpler and much more equitable rule that could be applied. It’s the same rule as the one used by schools and student athletes now to remain eligible: you have to complete a minimum number of hours throughout the year or else you become ineligible and your APR takes a hit. If they’d change the proposed legislation to require (and specify) a minimum level of progress toward the graduate degree during the one year, then I would be able to support it.
Pretty simple, really. If it’s a one year graduate program, you have to graduate. If it’s a two year program, you have to get half of it done. And so on. You would think that people at Universities across the country would be smart enough to figure this stuff out....
