Godfather Denny has officially spoken

some folks who thrive on these media outlets must not have much going on, to have the time to waste listening to talking heads.
Yeah I'm just not gonna listen to that specific show to find out who Denny supports. I love Denny, obviously he's an icon and a legend - but I don't really care who he's supporting because I'm assuming he's endorsing Payne because KP's obviously one of Crums kids and Crum's never going to come out and say unkind word about KP and I don't see him mentioning some random coach.

If he wasn’t supporting Payne, the OP never would have created this thread. 🤡

Dan is right up there with Eaves. They both hate UofL so I’m not giving either the satisfaction of my time.

I understand Dan's distaste for UofL since he is a uahkay guy but Eaves has a problem only because he was rejected by UofL after his failure as a coach.

GO CARDS!!!

Issel is a clown. He will milk the NBA to Louisville people until he’s dead. It seems I’ve read somewhere that he blew through all his money. I’ve heard him spew out hatred for UofL and cut down our program any chance he gets. Yet, he is leading the NBA to Louisville charge? Another reason to say screw Issel, UK and the NBA. Dan needs to take the NBA and shove it up his all the way to Lexington.

Those close to Payne not sure if he’s “interested in the job”. Perhaps the big chair scares him? Would explain why he’s never been a HC.

He will try to say the Knicks are a viable option. Who knows but it doesn’t sound like the Knicks would go with Payne.

I have it on very solid information that Payne has made it known that he will not interview for the UL job without a clear understanding that the job is his. He fears being identified as a candidate, but is not hired. The BOT is currently split on hiring Payne, some support and others want to follow a more formal protocol.

If they're gonna pull the trigger on KP,they might as well do it sooner than later before he becomes a bargaining chip. Jmo.

Don’t we all wish that? Why interview if we were going to go ahead and give him the job? Makes no sense.

I think this is tied to last time. He was interviewed as a courtesy not an actual candidate. I am sure he wants to be interviewed with the expectations they are serious about him.

I think Louisville will go through all the candidates and pick one. An interview at this level is more about making sure it is a good fit. All the vetting has already occurred.

Let’s put this in my world perspective. Let’s say a position for a senior level manager opened up paying $400,000. Let’s say my boss applies and he has been a senior manager for 12 years. He makes $200,000 now. I also apply for the position because I have almost 10 years as an assistant manager and make 80,000. I fully expect that my boss will get the job because he is more qualified although I feel I can also do the job.

Now if they only want to pay $100,000, my boss is over qualified and I’m better suited for the position.

So even though we say we don’t have any money, I still believe Option 1 applies and KP is not as qualified as some “others”.

It is all about risk. It is more about the actual candidate than qualifications. There are plenty of supervisors that are over paid that produce average results. The equally as many under paid coaches that produce great results in the role they are in. Here is the hook in college basketball finding a really good coach is 80-20 across the whole NCAA. We only focus on the coaches that have survived. There are far more failures than successes.

In your example if Rick Pitinio is the $200,000 and Mick Cronin is the 80,000 then you promote Rick Pitino. Flip it if Rick Pitino is the lower paid supervisor you would do best to hire Rick Pitino.

The only way Louisville can go with KP is if he can deliver recruits. The risk of hiring him decreases greatly if that occurs. Without recruits the risk in hiring him is extremely high. If the administration is convinced recruits will come which sounds like they are struggling with you go with the “more qualified” coach.

In reality we don’t know if KP will be the next Rick Pitino, however we do know Mick Cronin or other viable candidates are not.
