Future Schedules

So you think UK wants to suck at football by hiring someone like Stoops? Completely opposite. They thought by hiring someone with the name (stoops) and pedigree (FSU) that they were making a commitment to football (similar to hiring a Bowden). We as Cardinal fans should know all to well about bad coaching hires. I personally wanted crapthorpe gone after year one but it took awhile. However we also know how fast you can get back on your feet with a good hire even a decent hire. You cannot dispute that they have the resources (25th in college football revenue) and the fact there in the SEC that they won't be able to lure in a decent coach at some point. Would anybody raise an eyebrow if Briles (tarnished), Miles (easier division) or Mack Brown (still wants to coach) were to go UK? Maybe not, but our rivalry would become more competitive than what it is. Let's enjoy what we have now but don't assume that it can't change.

Briles, Miles nor Parcells is walking through that door. Uahkay is where a coach goes to "end" their career, in a negative manner. That has already happened to Brown.

LPT Football: "pitiful, pitiful football."

Doesn't have to be one of those. Duke used to be a laughing stock when it came football and although they may not be serious contenders, nobody can dispute their improvement. UK has way more resources than Duke.

You brought up Briles, Brown and Miles. I added Parcells for good measure.
The major resource uahkay does not have or has never had, is a committment to winning football. Without it, does not matter what material resources you have(See U of L football).

Stop with the drop LPT Crap...Yes they SUCK...Yet they get points for their SEC Schedule...Thus, we get points because of that...Our problem is the same now as it was when we were in C-USA or the Big East...The Major Powers in the other P5 conferences DON'T want to play a school OOC that can beat them...We're still perceived as a Dangerous Upgraded G5 Team!!!

It would help if teams in our own division other than Clemson and FSU got their heads out of their @$$ and got better, and we scheduled Mid Level P5 Teams or Upper Level G5 Teams to play HnH...I see nothing but benfites by playing G5 Boise State, Cincinnati, Houston, San Diego State, UCF, USF etc... OOC...Surely we haven't gotten too big for our britches now that the ACC has given us a life-line to Ass-U-Me that we are better then them!?!?!?

Our schedule is what it is because of BC, Syracuse, UVA, Wake etc...as much as it is because of UK...Upgrading our OOC Schedule is EASY to do if we're WILLING to look to our Roots, and play those teams we were once Bastard Children with!!!

Just looking at Louisville schedule; last year we played Auburn/Kentucky, this year Houston/Kentucky, and in the future Alabama/Kentucky. Granted Houston is not in a P5 conference, but they are rated in the T10 this year.

Your statement is as much false as it is true. They may not want to chance a loss, but more and more they are playing the teams in other P5 conferences for TV match ups early in the year and sporadically throughout the year to improve their OOC resume and overall SoS.

The advent of the playoff system vs the old BCS system has brought about this change and will only continue to grow these type of match ups from now on, IMO.

Even if the conferences go to 9 conference games, a rule should be passed to make it mandatory to play 2 other P5 teams as part of the 12 game schedule.

It is unfortunate for any team if they, due to bad luck, are in a P5 division that has the weaker teams in any given year and that should not be held against them. Win your division and conference championship game and you will likely be ranked in the T4 or 5 in the nation and the rankings will take care of determining the best 4 teams (as well as the committee) to go to the FF. The playoff system is much fairer than the old BCS system IMO.

The delusion is that LPT will ever get better at football. They've been waiting five decades for that to happen, and U of L fans shouldn't join in unless we see fundamental change to how they operate. When they start lowering the profile of basketball down to its proper place--no higher than football--I'll get encouraged.

In the meantime, you take your fate in your own hands. When LPT occupies or affects 50% of your OOC schedule, you're in trouble because they don't value football. I said it earlier--they're dragging us down...

Male, your points about scheduling difficulties are valid...in the past. Today, you're a different player in football, much different. And you have some leverage that can be used to your advantage. Everyone benefits with a better SEC team on our schedule. And IMO, handled with the simultaneous exchange for LPT, it can happen...

By the way... I hope those of you hanging onto LPT as your "rival" have enjoyed watching video reports this week of their lunatic fans camping out again to get tickets to their first BASKETBALL practice. Like them, maybe you don't see a problem?...

I know what your scared of. Right now Florida is down. Has been down since urban left, it has yet to be determined that Smart is the right guy at Georgia, Sgt. Carter has his issues at UT, gamecocks are down with no spurrier, Vandy is Vandy and Missouri is inconsistent. On top of that with Miles leaving the west is becoming weak with the exception of Bama. One decent hire could make them relevant and that worries you. That's really why you want them off the schedule now..

I would rather schedule mid to lower tier Big 10+4, $EC teams than play "Directional State" or "State That is not a State U" in out of conference games. The perception of playing these teams is better whether these Big 10+4 or $EC are good or not.

Purdue and IU-Bloomington are great examples. Big 10+4 schools that absolutely suck at football. Each school has a fan base and their conference fan base that still thinks of themselves as so much better than Louisville. People will see that lowly ole Louisville just trounced a Big 10+4 team and had twice as many fans as Purdue or IU-Bloomington did in their own backyard....What do we get out of playing "Directional State"? Kentucky fits this same mold for the $EC.

Like it or not, UK-Lexington is a no brainer. We will be playing them as a part of the ACC vs. SEC Thanksgiving Weekend Package until the end of time. Nothing will stop that, even with the 9 conference game deal.

Our paying customer, ESPN, has told us in no uncertain terms that playing those teams is not a priority. They want us playing either a 9 game conference schedule and one other P5 team every year, or they want us playing an 8 game conference schedule and 2 P5 teams every year. What we do with games 11 and 12 are inconsequential to them.

Beam me up. No offense, but you can't be over 25 yr old.

uk's problems have been going on since 1960. Do you really think that in 56 years the $EC hasn't had it's up's and down's?

And uk has NEVER taken advantage of that. (Except for one year-immediately followed by probation)

They suck because they WANT to suck. Not literally want to, but they've done nothing to take the thumb off of FB, while constantly pushing, and promoting BB.

UL USED to do the same thing until Howard came to town. Before him, it was all BB all the time. But we hire CHS and ACTED like we were going big time, but in reality we STILL did the same thing by favoring BB over FB, and joining CUSA. Howard, who wanted to stay Independent in FB and play a National schedule, felt snubbed and hamstringed by this choice and left. The powers in charge made a social statement, and hired Cooper, and with this move, our FB programs was on it's way to uk land. Irrelevant.

What really saved our FB program was Tom Jurich. He knew the VALUE of good FB.

I firmly believe, had we not gotten TJ, UL would be in uk's shoes today, except in a lousy conference.

Sorry, no offense I think it's you that doesn't remember history. You do realize it has been 32 years since CHS was here so we haven't got to where we are overnight. And although we are verge of doing something spectacular this year, we haven't made a mark yet as far as one of the best football programs in America. It has to be sustained.

As I said before UK was ranked along with 7 other SEC schools in the top 25 as far college football producing revenues. ACC had one - FSU. We all criticize Stoops salary but I think there would be quite a few coaches who would want that kind of money. They just spent 120 million in stadium renovations and although it doesn't compare to PJ, you can hardly say they're not making a commitment to football. I hate UK but I'm not sticking my head in the sand and pretend that things can't change.

Comparing LPT football to programs like Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee is pure delusion. Even slapd!cks admit it, and it's time you do as well. Some of those programs have slipped recently--down close to where LPT resides PERMANENTLY. Sure, LPT is one hire away, just like they were 40 years ago. Those other programs are legitimately "one hire away".

You're one of the best programs in the ACC, and you're tethered to one of the worst in the SEC. Only if you're stuck in the past do you not see a potential issue with that. It's sure as hell dummying down our schedule.

Got your Big Blue Madness tickets yet?...

That's what UK banks on Zipp. We don't have to get better we just need everyone else to get worse.
