" Florida State football’s Dontae Lucas has entered the portal. After being listed as the backup at left guard each of the prior two weeks, Lucas’ name did not appear on the depth chart for this week’s game vs. Wake Forest. "

A school spokesperson has confirmed with Tomahawk Nation that Lucas is no longer a part of the Florida State football program.

The former four-star was FSU’s highest-rated offensive player in the 2019 recruiting class. Lucas started seven games in each of the last two seasons. In 2019 as a true freshman, he started five games at right guard and two at left guard. He appeared in 11 total games. He was FSU’s first true freshman offensive lineman to start a season opener since 2008. After the season, Lucas was named a second-team Freshman All-American by the Athletic.

In 2020, he appeared in eight games and all seven of his starts came at left guard. Lucas lost his starting job this season as Florida State added grad-transfer Dillan Gibbons to take over the left guard spot. Despite losing his starting job, Lucas had appeared in FSU’s first two games. Per PFF, Lucas was on the field for 49 of 79 snaps against Jacksonville State, but had the lowest grade of the offensive linemen.

Like to think we would have a shot, but he’d probably look at us as jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

He didnt even start for a team we rolled last year, would he really be an upgrade? Seems like more of what we already have.

I fear the only thing his 4 Star rating tells us now, is that despite his perfect size and high expectations ……… he was not very good as an offensive linemen at a struggling D1 school.

I believe I'd still take a chance on this kid. What we don't know is the "backstory". It's worth checking out for a program that needs linemen.

GO CARDS!!!

Agreed GOCDS; and I suspect that our staff is all over it! Like it or not, this staff is now forced to pursue the transfer portal more than ever before.
