Field Hockey #3 seed in NCAA Tournament

#3 Louisville field hockey team has earned the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye in the NCAA Championships for Field Hockey. The Cardinals will start at University Park, Pa. to face the winner of Rider and UConn on Sunday, May 2.

The quarterfinal winner will advance to the NCAA semifinals which will take place May 7-9 in Chapel Hill at the University of North Carolina.

This marks Louisville’s ninth NCAA tournament appearance and its sixth at-large bid in the last seven years. #3 is highest national seed for Justine Sowry's Cards after earning the No. 4 seed in 2019.

The Cardinals had a split season and went 13-5 overall. They won the ACC fall regular season title and posted a runner-up finish in the 2020 fall ACC championship. Louisville was responsible for for giving #1 seed North Carolina (16-1) their only loss in the season.

In addition to Louisville, top-seeded North Carolina will also represent the ACC in the 2020 NCAA tournament. 12 teams total will participate in the tournament and there were nine conference automatic qualifiers. Besides Louisville, Northwestern and Iowa received at-large bids. In first round action, the other games are Miami. OH (13-1 )vs. Stanford (10-2), Northwestern (11-5) vs. Delaware (6-3), and VCU (9-0) vs Bucknell (5-3). Michigan received the #2 seed and a bye and Iowa received the #4 seed and a bye.
