This doesn't really say anything except speak to the possibility. It underscores what I've been saying all along about the risk of getting amp-ed up about a guy that you have no idea whether he's clean.

I'd personally laugh my a$$ off the way some people in this space have had their Mack hard-ons on public display...

This made me wonder. Say UofL hires Mack, later on the FBI implicates Xavier and then the NCAA smacks Mack with a 10 year show cause. Would/could the show cause be retro active?

The more pertinent question is would this be more evidence for an NCAA finding for lack of institutional control? You would have two administrations in the view of the NCAA thumbing their noses to NCAA rules. U of L can't take that risk...

Nothing but picking on small fish schools . Amazing how Duke ,Nc,Ky and Kansas are not named in anything and they get all the top players in multiple batches. Louisville and Arizona are sacrificial lambs.

Just allows Tyra to get Mack that much easier on the wallet more leverage for us now. Mack is good to go!

The four schools you mentioned have not been named yet. Yet.
Rumors abound that there are a lot of names connected through agents that we haven't heard.
Just a wait and see situation.

Here is the question... If there are indeed fifty major P5 schools involved, are the television networks and the NCAA ready for the possible title game of Belmont vs Montana?

Those two players mentioned just dropped the agency. Doesn't mean they were P2P.

Thats why U of L and arz were thrown under the bus . The other 4 schools are their cash cow prized golden children.

Would love to know you think we’re hiring
I already posted my matrix of hires this week. Makes no attempt to filter them for likelihood or probability, nor can I or anyone else predict the future...

As I understand the process, these players START getting paid in college for future dividends they pay in the pros.

Ending a relationship now means nothing; in fact, it may mean there was a business relationship dating back to the time period covered by this investigation...

only Bennet on that top row is a real possibilty
I just said I don't filter for probability. Let your new AD decide if he's man enough to do the job his predecessor did. And our fans should challenge him to do that--not accept guys in the 2nd row because they're easier to sign...

Zipp...I appreciate your opinion and continued interaction on here...but that list is absolute sh*t. I mean the options on it are either not realistic or would be disaster hires.

Stevens is absolutely 1,000,000 % not even a possibility.

Tony Bennett's system is the worst thing to happen to college basketball since the 4 corners and Dean Smith. I have ZERO desire to have him lead my program.

Billy D is at least a slight..SLIGHT...possibility but still an insane long shot.

Jay Wright - would be an amazing hire but is highly, highly unlikely.

Scotty Davenport - i mean I get that he's a home town guy with loads of experience but he's been in D2 for like 13 years and I don't know for sure how old he is but he's got to be in his 60s....way too old to be taking over a job like this thats going to take some time to rebuild.

Tom Crean/Seth Greenburg would be disastrous hires.

Maybe I didn't understand your table, I don't know.

Billy D is close with Rick Pitino AND he's coaching a top tier NBA team - his name needs to be removed from these threads LOL

I do appreciate Zipps interaction as well.

I don't think any of the top row are possible. They all have good jobs...why take over sort of an equal job with all the trouble.

I think you probably understand it just fine. Like many, however, I don't know if you have a clue how drastically college basketball will be changing in a month or so. It could very well be turned on its head esp. if the NCAA makes any attempt at survival. The very top of college basketball, the best programs, could be reeling. All of these young coaches with a lotta promise at lesser programs may be out of work, and you'd be foolish to touch them.

Picture the stock market in free fall... No one wants to pick up good stocks on the cheap. It's all about safety--going to cash. There will be plenty of time to reinvest, buy stocks even cheaper. Or hire a promising coach after the smoke clears. Trying to catch a falling knife or get that coach now is flirting with disaster...

That's really not our problem. It's this guy's; his bosses put us in this position...

I don't really like them either, but how do you figure they put us in this position. I think that was Pitino, correct...and Jurich should have fired Pitino after the stripper gate...if he had done that, we wouldn't be in this position.

The latest coming out of ESPN and Yahoo Sports stated as many as 3 dozen top tier schools to include Hall of Fame coaches are involved. It went on to say if it came out today MTSU would be a top seed. That should let you know how vast this problem is.

Today an article came out from Yahoo Sports stating an agent named Miller has spreadsheets naming players and schools and how much money was exchanged. Stated if you’ve had a player drafted into the NBA over the last 3 years you should be concerned.

Will see if it’s released. Lots of smoke!

Anyone that thinks Donovan or Brad Stevens is a possibility at all is not living in the real world. The Celtics are setup to be a top team for many years, may even dominate the east if Lebron starts to show his age soon. BD has 3 super star players which at least gives him a CHANCE of making some noise in the playoffs. Melo is older but Westbrook (29) and PG (27) still have a lot left in the tank. Outside of coaching the Warriors or a Lebron James team, BD and Stevens have as good of coaching jobs in the NBA as you can get.

I feel like the key question is, when will all of this FBI info leak out? If its not going to come out this spring/summer we should probably give DP another year. I am not saying Padgett is our answer long term but he may just be the best option until we know for sure who is clean. DP can hopefully keep majority of our current roster in place (Nwora, Perry, etc)

The worst possible sceniro to all of this is hiring a coach....finding out he is dirty...and put us back in the position of 'do we fire him?'

Would love to have Mack, but what about Cronin? Cronin has had alot of success at Cinci.

Please explain what success? How many elite eights? Final Fours? He’s been there for many years at a top tier school and not much to crow about. Plus he has ties to Pitino which I suspect disqualifies him.

But at this point who is safe to hire? Is Cronin or Mack who knows.

Very good points. But this investigation could take years. And I mean 3-5 years if it’s as wide spread as the believe. Tough spot

The NCAA didn't say "fire Pitino now". That was a clown show decision, along with firing Jurich. They took a bad situation and made it ten times worse.

No question Pitino had to go--eventually. Not one week before the season started. If the NCAA implodes over this, not even next year. The clown show put you much, much deeper into this mess...

That's not yours or my problem. Our last AD in 2001 hired one of the most sought-after coaches in all of basketball into a losing CUSA program. Are you saying the odds are longer now with the other "home run" coaches I named? I hope not.

If Tyra is half of the AD that Jurich is, he at the very least makes one or two of those calls. And that's even if Tyra's ultimately not successful. Let's see if this guy is capable of thinking big and not suggest that he goes after a coach just because he can hire him. That's not what got us where we are (or were)...

Well people are talking about Donavan, also a Pitino assistant. Cronin was only here couple of years...not sure that strong of a connection.

Yeah - I think the people talking Donovan are a little out of touch - he's more off the grid than Cronin. I'd assume neither would work here if contacted.

To hire anyone before shit hits the fan....foolish.

And anyone thinking these big name coaches are coming here now....foolish.

No one knows what’s going to happen. It’s just as risky for us to hire someone right now because we don’t know whose clean and whose dirty. So I would suggest the risk goes both ways.

It’s still a top ten job. And the good thing about BB is it can recover quickly. Just ask SuCk.

So to say no one will come here you just don’t know. We will see

I am among the ones who are very high on Chris Mack but have to agree with you in that we are going to have to wait to see where the chips are going to fall regarding the FBI investigation and what the NCAA does after its over. And we know that could linger quit a while. Better to keep our powder dry.

FWIW the Enquirer is the Cincy version of the C-U and just about as biased in its coverage. Both are Gannett papers.
