On a cool evening, where the rain held off during the contest, Duke got a first half goal from freshman Michelle Cooper and that proved to be enough to down the Cards 1-0 in the final regular season game of the season for the Cards.
Both teams had chances to score in the early minutes, but could not convert. Delaney Snyder got behind the Duke defense and had a one-on-one opportunity with Duke goalkeeper Ruthie Jones, but her touch was strong which moved her out of scoring range and she was unable to get off a shot.
A few minutes later, the Blue Devils had their chance when Cooper beat Louisville goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos to the ball and had a free shot at the net, but she rushed her shot and it sailed wide.
The Cards are out of the post-season ACC Tournament and most likely out of the NCAA Tournament as well. Virginia finishes atop the ACC, they tied FSU last night 1-1- to secure the top spot, FSU gets the #2 seed and Duke the #3 seed. The other three ACC Tournament participants are Notre Dame, Clemson and North Carolina.
