74-67. If ever there was a year for us to end the slide to them this is it, Mangok injury or not. Ohio St. manhandled UK in the first half like UCLA did.

Should be an interesting week. I'm guessing the spread will be close to a pick-em and it's not out of the question that the Cards could be a slight favorite.

Thoughts?

My first thought is young players usually play better at home.

UofK wasn't at home.

My second thought is Murray is a stone cold stud of a basketball player.

Today, the second half was the first minutes I saw UofK play this year. Both teams played hard. The UofK freshmen sans Murray played like freshmen and UofK is charmin soft inside. Period.

Cal doesn't have a team full of two deeep ready made first rounders on this squad. William Wesley has secured him another ready made squad for next season. And we now know we don't stand a chance in Rupp.

UL is just a better team - PERIOD. At home or neutral site we beat UK 8 out of 10 times. Losing Mathiang hurts, but we still should have enough against the marshmallow frontcourt of UK. At their place you have to figure it will take a good game by UL, but UK should not be favored in my opinion.

That freaking was the worse officiated game in the history of organized sports!! Osu made waaaay too many trips to the line! Another clear and obvious proof of the anti UK element inside of the NCAA. Why the hell we are still in this organization is beyond me after they flat out STEAL wins from us is beyond me.
Back on point, birdie boy. I PROMISE you there will be better officiating next week!
UK 142 ul 56, book it

Agree about Murray. Going to critical that Nanu stay out of foul trouble now without Mangok. Nanu at Rupp Arena has 3 early fouls written all over it.

I still like our chances with the leadership of Q, Lewis and Lee.

Mostly accurate but our past against them says otherwise. For some reason we just never can play a complete organized game against them .

I hear you. And obviously no guarantees, especially at their place. Also, UK will improve some by March. But right now there is no question in my mind that UL is the better team.

My only regret about UK losing is..

I didn't get to watch it. Doing other things.

Next week is gonna be fun. Rivalry ramps up.

They have six 5-star kids, and they're playing at home in front of a fanbase that will treat this game like a Super Bowl. And we're the last good team they will face for two months.

None of that sets up like a Xmas gift-wrapped road victory.

"Elite program", my a$$...

No way Lexington city college loses two games in a row. Playing at Rupp, coming off a loss, in addition to cow instructing the zebras to call multiple fouls on Lee and Lewis within the 1st 2 minutes of the game, spells defeat. Would love to see Rick ruin their super bowl party.

They usually have someone come out of nowhere too. I envision Derek Willis hitting 5 threes and Spalding having a massive game and it coming down to final minute

The best strategy against UK is to foul them. Then they will have empty trips .Horrible free throw shooting. Briscoe and Lee shoot under 40%. When UK started coming back today, it was empty trips that hurt them.

That's normally Cal's M O is getting to the line and slowing the game down, especially if they get behind at home. The drive, flail and flop. They did hit 9 threes today and miss a bunch of FTs but I don't think the game plan will change much this week.

We just need to guard the 3 point line and take our chances on the defensive glass IMO.

This exactly.^ Since Cal has been at UK they are usually the team that has someone come out of nowhere to have an all world game, not the Cards. Harrelson, Wiltjer, Harrow, etc. ring a bell? Someone on Uk usually goes off and has their best game of the season against us.

Not saying UofL can't win the game but no way UK plays as bad as today against the Cards. Watch and see.

Make no mistake, though, that was a brutal loss yesterday... tOSU's RPI is in the 170s.

Another caveat is the fact the Cards still have 2 games to play before next Saturday, and UofK has the entire week to prepare for the Cards. The New Zealand kid (who was playing professional basketball overseas) will add another big body for them and he's supposed to be a banger. He is 6-10, 255lbs. He'll be the guy the Cards won't be ready for. Watch and see.

Regarding the professional who is adding to the farce which is college basketball today, he will represent exactly what is wrong with college basketball. The entire situation makes me sick.

^ Do what now? Didn't UL bring in two fifth year senior transfers just for this season?

Tis the season and I believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watch we will give UK a blue Christmas.
I watched yesterday's affair when the score was 31-17 OSU, with 7:50 or so left in the first half. I couldn't believe what came next. Ohio State scored a total of 10 points over the next 13 minutes and still led by 10. That was perhaps the most poorly-executed game of the entire season. I was shocked at how terrible they both looked.

If we don't beat them by double figures, we're in some serious trouble. I'm not sure Murray even plays defense

The New Zealander supposedly only received room and board. I remember a UL player who was ruled ineligble under the same circumstances. They said they found a contract he had signed in Russian. He didn't speak the language ( re: Lesage ).

LOL, Coach Cal is sending his kids home to spend Christmas with their families and Pitino is practicing his team twice a day up until the game with Kentucky.
So tell me again, who is acting like this is their super bowl?

Well lets just say it's a good thing for Cards fans that you're not the coach.
The very last thing you should ever do on defense against this UK team is guard the three point line. You leave open lanes when you do that and that leads to buckets for UK and fouls for UL. UK is terrible from the outside, they hit some on Saturday but that is because Murray was in a zone. If you look at UK's season stats they rank among the worst in cbb from 3 point range.

Except UK isn't even practicing this week. The players are all going home until the 23rd. Same schedule Cal always has for his team prior to the UL game.

You still think he will send them home for a week over Christmas?

Double digits huh? What have the Cards accomplished this season to make you think they are that good?
I'm not sure Zipp is going to agree with you.

Yes, why wouldn't he?. The 2013 and 2014 teams had a worse record at this point in the season and he still sent them home. It really doesn't matter for this game honestly. When you're 5-1 the last 6 December games against an opponent you don't change what has been working for you.

Can't dispute anything you said here, especially re: how soft UofK is on the interior. Exacerbating this issue is the fact that Poythress is a Blackshear clone; here one day and gone the next. In time others will develop, but right now Murray is the heart of the offense.

In spite of all your efforts, do you actually think your opinion has reached the level of having value here?

I could tell you, for example, that I actually watched our games. I could say I use my own basketball IQ, which is informed by playing high school ball against Butch Beard and Mike Casey, and which I am arrogant enough to think it gives me some insight into how the game is played. I could even mention I felt we would lose the past few games against UK because of their talent advantage.

But, see, here's the thing. You will read that with growing resistance, badly and dearly wanting these observations to be wrong. That's not even a stretch. Every single Louisville poster can accurately imagine your thought processes, because most of your takes are those of a simple troll who treats reality like an echo chamber.

Okay, so out of that I get that you played basketball at one time in your life and you don't value my opinion. Okay got it.
Is there anything else that you want to post that is also irrelevant to this thread?

I'm going to give you a chance to consider a counter point of view.

Do you think Rick Pitino cares about this rivalry? If he did, he would have never accepted the coaching position @ Louisville. UK fans treated him very well during his tenure. His priorities are nowhere in line with the common fan of either team, no matter how badly fans of both programs want his priorities to be just like their own, or somewhere in the same neighborhood.

Pitino's practice schedule for his team is based on getting the team better, period. If he chooses to work the team during holidays, he is doing so to help prepare the team for the entire season, and holiday time allows the team to focus on basketball only, classes are out of session.

I understand you want to think Pitino is working real hard to get a win over Kentucky. He is competitive by nature, I will not sit here and tell you he doesn't care about the outcome of the game. He wants to win all the games. He's just not putting any Super Bowl priority on a non-conference game in December.

If he valued games in December to the level you are thinking, he would not have complex offensive and defensive schemes that make the game difficult for his young players to grasp early in their careers. Everything Rick Pitino does is for an end game, and his end game is just not December. One of the things Louisville fans dislike about Pitino is his failure to put more of a priority on this game.

He is always looking long term to getting them ready for conference play and March.

We understand it's your Super Bowl. You wouldn't be hanging out over here if you didn't have a lot at stake. And I'm not going to lie to you and tell you I view this game as just another game either.

But what you are doing is, stretching reality to fit your narrative.

Quoted for truth.

I'm not going to lie either. I want the Cards to win this game against UofK very badly. Not even trying to deny that but here's the biggest difference I see regarding the two programs. If the Cards win, the UofK season might just spiral out of control to the point where it could end up being another NIT appearance for the best collection of 5 star talent on earth in spite of the cup cake schedule left in front of them to play. They'll start eating their own.

If UofK wins, it just gives the Cards more energy to keep improving as they prepare for the 6 or 7 ranked opponents left on the schedule.

This IS UofK's Super Bowl. If they lose, dreams get crushed. It is what it is.
