Does the ACC profit from Notre Dame football

Uh...the conference gets five or six games a year from Notre Dame. Nobody here thinks we profited from our Primetime Game at L&N the week after they had a Primetime game at Duke last year?

There were a lot of green and gold in the stands when we played ND but begs the question, if they bought tickets through Stubhub or whatever, how does the University benefit from that? Concessions are concessions, do ND fans eat and drink more than other fans? I fail to see any real substantial benefit.

Went back and looked it up, scheduling ND at home is basically the same as having UK at home, about 58,000. I guess more ND fans would stay overnight and eat at restaurants in town so I could see how the city might benefit from that but again that's not the University.

I will add despite the fact that I wasn't at the Notre Dame game last year--being represented by my son and daughter being in the same stadium for the first time in ten years--but I'd bet that the money that went towards NIL DURING the Notre Dame last year with all the markups on drinks/concessions in the Club Suites and that scan donation far exceeded any other the two years they have been drawing into NIL at L&N.

I agree having ND associated with the ACC is a big bonus. As much criticism as the ACC is taking this year Notre Dame could be used as an argument in our favor. They are not officially an ACC football school but they play an ACC football schedule. If ND was not associated with ACC instead they were associated with the B1G we would notice our loss.

Stubhub doesn’t print the tickets. They ultimately come from the university- ticket/holders who bought them resell them. So yes, the university benefits. But not really more than if we were playing Kansas State.

I don't believe the University can resell them at those prices, only ticket holders and that benefits them, not the university.

Look at the TV ratings when a team plays Notre Dame and you’ll find the value in playing them.

Everyone wants Notre Dame in their conference. That is all you need to know. I wish Louisville played them every year. The benefit outweighs the risk.

Notre Dame will never join a conference until they are forced and not sure what set of circumstances would force their hand. I said it another post. They may become extremely good in this NIL-Transfer ERA. They have the entire package as a program.

Does that translate into money for the University? If so, stop playing Murray St, WKU, Austin Peay, Jax St and play the MIchigan's, Ohio St., Texas, Alabama.... If we start winning again, we can get sellouts no matter who we are playing.

It certainly does - it makes the ACC TV package more attractive, giving the ACC bargaining power when selling those TV rights. That translates into more money for each school from that source.

We do have Georgia home and home in 26-27 and Texas A&M in 28-29.

ND is coveted by all conferences. The fact that ND competes in all sports inside the ACC except football appeared to be a huge advantage for the ACC before the aggressive expansion by BIG and SEC. I am afraid the ACC has since lost the inside track, in fact I suspect any departures from the ACC could result in the conference being cannibalized.

Just curious if the ACC profits anything from Notre Dame ( Independent)

Does the ACC profit from Notre Dame?

Absolutely.

It is true that Notre Dame does keep all their football playoff money.

But I'm pretty sure that ND shares in all other bowl money as part of their agreement with the ACC. With ND being part of our bowl lineup, we should get better bowls in our lineup.

All you need to know about our arrangement with Notre Dame is that the Big XII would give their left nut to have our ND deal.

I wish we had them on our schedule every year. It sucks when they aren't.

Looks like ND and Louisville don’t play until 2030, unfortunately. I think Brohm is a great coach and would like to see him and Louisville bolster the ACC against the SEC/espn.

Those were fun games between ND/UL in 2023/2024. Great gameplanning from the Louisville defense to shut ND down in short yardage situations in 2023. Great gameplanning in general from UL that game. I was happy you all pulled out the W against Washington.

I was happy Miller Moss landed at Louisville. He was a good player at USC in my opinion.

My only point that I was trying to make is that some fans think we get extra credit or recognition that ND plays us and ACC opponents but they are also smiling and giving us the middle finger by not "joining" as an actual member. They have always acted as better than anybody out there by being an independent. For those who want to say but we only lost by 7 to ND, its almost nearly as bad as UK saying they are a football powerhouse because they're SEC, SEC, SEC. They're hanging on the coattails of the Alabama's, Georgia's, LSU's and soon to be Texas and Oklahoma except those teams are actually SEC members. I hate both Ohio St and ND, but if it had to come down to it, I would pick the Buckeyes over the priviledged green and gold.

Also, there would’ve been no ACC network without ND being involved in non- football sports.

Yes. Good tv ratings is very important when network deals are being negotiated.

" ... that some fans think we get extra credit or recognition that ND plays us and ACC opponents ... " - Newsflash, WE DO.

" ... but they are also smiling and giving us the middle finger by not "joining" as an actual member." -- so what? You think UNC, or UVA, or Duke really want U of L in their conference?? Hell no they don't. So why should we care if ND does that?

Does ND deserve their special treatment by all of college football? That's a debate that has raged for the past 20-30 years. And it will continue to be debated.

But BECAUSE they have this special place in college football, we DO get extra credit for beating them. That's just a fact.

I'm rooting for ND over Ohio State because Ohio State fans are numerous, and insufferable.

Here is another way to look at it if Notre Dame joined the conference the ACC wouldn’t collapse and it would put the ACC right behind the SEC and Big Ten. They are the one brand that moves the needle for basically whomever they partner with.

If the other brands ever stop playing Notre Dame, Big Ten and SEC teams, they may consider joining the ACC if they keep all their TV money-no revenue sharing with them. It would be the one thing that may force them to at least play a conference schedule. They have said they want to play a national schedule. Even with USC and Texas A&M their schedule was blah. Take those away their schedule looks like a P5 schedule. It won’t happen but that may be the only way they semi join a conference.

Keep in mind they are taking SEC and Big 10 spots away in the playoff. Cut them off force them into ACC or Big Ten.

Well said Pervis! There will always be some anti-ND folks who refuse to give credit where credit is due, but in truth there is no other college football program in America that could stand independent, and still compete for a NC like ND.

Did you ever think that ND doesn't play a SEC or B10 schedule because maybe they might lose and God forbid, miss a bowl game?

I do think your wrong about ACC schools not wanting U of L in the conference. We were only 1 of 2 teams to win a freaking bowl game this year. Up until the Pitino/Mack/Payne fiasco we heped give the ACC the reputation of being the best basketball conference in the country. I know it has to do with Coach K, Roy, Boeheim and Bennett retiring but I also think when we went down so did the ACC. Oh, and I didn't have to put in ALL CAPS for you.

Notre Dame's scheduling philosophy comes from way back, from well before the SEC was even founded. It has nothing to do with strength of schedule. But rather adhering to a national coast-to-coast schedule.

A hundred-plus years ago, Notre Dame took a negative (a blatant boycott by Big Ten schools against ND's football program) and turned it into a positive -- a national schedule that allowed them to grow their fan base exponentially.

The boycott led by Michigan turned Notre Dame into the powerhouse they are today.

It cracks me up to see message board takes pushing for another boycott "until they join a conference". It's as misguided now as it was a hundred years ago.

As far as Louisville and the ACC goes ...... (by the way, Notre Dame stepped up for us bigtime to get in the ACC) ...... it's not hard to find bias against the Cardinals.
At first, we were the new kid on the block with crappy academics that they were forced to take because Maryland was broke as all hell so they bolted to the Big Ten in a money grab.

Over the past ten years we've lost the new kid but added massive NCAA scandals to the crappy academics.

NC State fans are worse than the academic snobs because they (rightly) perceived us as a threat to their standing in the league. The old Big East schools don't feel that way. But they're more agnostic to us than anything else.

Don't kid yourself. There's a pretty big chunk of the ACC that is embarrassed to have us in their league.
