Another anomaly in the book that I checked on that I can't seem to verify its existence.

Cardinal Kuts

Filed Articles of Organization (LLC) on 11-12-2013

Her story starts out sometime in 2010, well before this document was filed with KY Secretary of State's Office.

So I went to the Jefferson County Clerk's Land Records to look for DBA (Doing Business As) Certificate. This is required to operate a business under an assumed name. Can't file any paper work as a business operating under an assumed name without at least doing this.

Couldn't find anything under Cardinal Kuts that had been filed. You would need something like this because "Barbering" is a licensed activity in the state of KY.

Anyone know of this shop?

Man you are on the case, the school or NCAA should hire you ! Seriously good job.

Just FYI, you don't need to incorporate (or be an LLC) to operate a business. Many just open "joe's business" and start taking customers. And the number of businesses that don't file a d/b/a probably outweighs those that do. But, yes, there is something off about this and there should be some way to verify it. At the very least, there should be an account with the Louisville Sinking Fund (to pay the local taxes).

That's what I was thinking. Since you have to have a license to cut hair for money, you would have to have your paper work in order. Barber Shops also have to file with the KY Barber Association, That would be another DBA requirement.

I know you are required by state law to file a DBA if you are working under assumed name. I don't know of any bank that will let you open a business checking account without one either. I was told that years ago when I started working under an assumed name.

A friend of mine told me that Barber Shops and places where people cut hair for money are subject to health inspections. That was news to me. Next time at the Barber Shop, I am going to ask.
