Louisville freshman Deng Adel has a sprained MCL and is expected to miss at least two weeks, if not more, coach Rick Pitino told The Courier-Journal on Saturday evening.

Adel, a forward who started the Cards' first two games, was told he would need 3-6 weeks to recover from the injury, though Pitino said Adel can start exercising his leg again in two weeks.

The freshman told reporters after Louisville's 89-61 win over North Florida on Saturday that he planned to have an MRI done on his knee after landing awkwardly in practice on Friday.

That is very concerning, and more to the point disappointing for the young man.

If his knee is not right after the 6 week time table, they need to take a very long look @ a medical RS for him.

This news makes me re-visit the thought of, "Can Spalding play the 3?" a bit closer.

I understand Lee can play the 3 and I know Rick will be willing to essentially play 3 guards, and we could be fine with that type of plan.

I still say it cannot hurt to consider using Spalding @ the 3 spot in stretches to see if he can get it done.

But more importantly, here's to a recovery for Adel it is a shame to see his career get off to such a bad start.

Hate it for the kid. but it seems with our program every time we have some really decent players we lose someone to a lengthy injury. He is a kid that i thought man we finally got a freshman with ability to play and make a impact quickly. But now he will miss a lot of games to get him going. So hopefully Ray and Mitchell take advantage of these minutes and put them to great use.

For what it's worth, just saw Adel walking to the Yum practice center. He was clearly dragging the leg, but I took the fact that he walked all the way from Minardi to the Yum as an encouraging sign.

Unfortunately it is this type of thing that can set Adel way behind the other players, especially in CRP's system. So glad we have some depth this year. Adel needs to heal 100%.

I agree, especially if he has to be out toward the longer end of the time table. I hope he has a quick and full recovery and is out on the court and able to play soon.
