Props to Deng Adel for knocking down that huge 3 late in the game. Also props to Coach Pitino for setting up a play for Adel. He struggled in the game but knocking down a huge shot like that is the type of thing that can really elevate a players pysche going forward. Coach knows that a scoring Adel is crucial to a deep run. Glad he had faith in him to knock it down.

I had a feeling right before that play during the timeout. I thought to myself "if Adel gets this ball I don't want him to back down and pass up a good shot. It would be nice if he hit a game sealing 3." Sure as sh*t he gets an open look and buries it.

To pass up an open jump shot is a lot worse than missing one. He probably didn't want to be summoned to treadmill hell.
That is exactly right. Coach Pitino loses his mind when any of his players pass up an open shot within their range.

Adel is a MUCH better shooter off of the pass. I'd guess 10%+ better. Not so much when he takes shots off the dribble.

In all fairness, most players shoot better off of the pass. The real special players can create their own shot off the bounce, and those players end up having long successful NBA careers barring injuries most of the time.

Sorry, not buying that. It varies by player. Also, I am not talking about guys creating their own shots while being guarded which is much harder to do. I am talking about a pass vs. one just dribbling up the 3 point line wide open and stepping into the shot. You would not think there is that much of a difference, but there is for him.

There is for most everyone that's ever played the game. It shouldn't be that much of a difference but it sure seems to be.

I've watched over 40+ years of basketball, and I've noticed that most of the great players (especially the guards and small forwards) can shoot off the dribble or off the pass, while others just below that talent level can only shoot a decent percentage shooting off of the pass. It's just an opinionated observation on my part. Maybe it's not true but it is to me.
