David Padgett to be named Interim Coach

I'm happy it's David if it turns out to be true. I can't imagine how difficult it will be to put a staff together. What assistants will want to come in fo what will probably be one year. And recruiting will certainly suck.

You all would be way better off, with Crean for a year. He's at least competent. Hiring a 32 year old guy that's extremely green is going to be a disaster.

I think there will be plenty of candidates looking to enter the ranks anywhere close to this level...

You’ll be surprised. He’s only an interim. Crean really? Did you see the mess he created at IU? And how does anyone know if he’s clean? No thanks I’m good with David. He understands the system and he’s been around coaching all of his life; since his dads a coach. There’s going to be bumps with whoever comes in now. Nature of the beast.

i'm sure other coaches ie Scotty have reached out to him and offered advice on some veteran retired coaches that will be willing to come and assist him. Basically all that is gone from the staff is the Hc, and two assts. And im sure Wayne turner will be elevated to assistant coach spot

Interim is interim. He will just be keeping the seat warm until the NCAA has levied any additional sanctions and any potential coaches know what our future will be. Then UofL will start looking at bigger names.

But if Padgett is able to weather this storm and keep us afloat, he has to be considered. At the very least he will have a nice resume.

If this is true (and I'm ok with it if it is) then maybe; just maybe the players on the roster stay put. I'm not expecting that but I am hopeful.

Im happy with it! We will have a winning season mark it down. I bet we even beat KY and it will be even sweeter because we will be able to say that we did it with an interim coach and missing recruits.

I feel that this is the best option and hell....it could work out for the long run.

Their is no person that cannot be replaced. And yes Chicken Little the sky is not falling. And karma is at work here for those that deserve it.

Love it. One minor correction. The sky is not falling; it already fell on the UofL basketball program as we knew it. It's all but dead for the foreseeable future. Sure it'll bounce back because of the geographic location, but we're in for some real rough years as the program climbs back up.

Agree, but probably not until after this year. No reason to self ban, and the NCAA investigation won’t be done before this postseason. Just gotta keep ineligible players off the court, which at this point is one person. This may be the best team we’ll have for a while.

Indeed, we (University of Louisville) will bounce back and I love sports. But, I love God, family, country, and education first. We all have to remember that education, morality, honor and integrity will always be more important than winning ballgames corruptly! Many have forgotten what the real mission of the University is. Coaches are way overpaid for what they provided to the betterment of society, students and society in general. The mission of any university is to develop leaders and individuals that will make the world a better place for humanity. It seems many educators have forgotten what a Renaissance Man is. Renaissance Men and Women are what Universities are supposed to be creating. Universities have never had The Mission of creating MLB, NFL, or NBA players, nor any other profession athletes! So yes the FBI is spot on about stopping the corruption. And Governor Bevin, Interim President Postel, David Grissom Chairmen of the Board of Directors, and he Board of Directors are all correct that a house cleaning and prioritising the mission of the university is in order.

100% agree. It needs to be cleaned up; I just wish it wasn't at our expense. I think it's beyond deniable that UofL was dirty and will pay for it but I'll go to my grave believing UofK is as dirty if not more so. Nobody has pimped out more talent to the NBA with huge shoe and apparel contracts than UofK. Nobody.

Thank God! Ive been saying this for the last three days. I walk around work seeing people that look like they have lost their damn puppy dog or even a family member. Some people look visibly moody and physically ill. I dont get it

Its an athletic program people, that is within an ACADEMIC institution. Go hug your family, kids, moms, wives etc....there is more to life than this, much much more and if you dont have that then I feel sorry for you. This is merely entertainment. If this has made you depressed or effected your life on a deep level in anyway (other than actual employees or players) then you may need to evaluate and/or prioritize your life. I have not lost one second of sleep over this. I enjoy reading and talking about it (its like a mans sope opera) but it does not effect my life in the least. Hell, ive been in a great mood the last few days, the weather is great !

Aren’t you the same guy who said 2-3 days ago, that you wouldn’t “even let your 5 year old son wear UofL shirts anymore?”

Where’d you get your perspective transfusion - 25 again?

I'm still wearing my UofL hat. I plan on wearing my brand new UofL football jersey tomorrow as I watch the Cards play Murray State too.

I don't give a damn. I'm a UofL fan FIRST and forever. I give could a shit less who the coaches are or what they've done to stain this program. It's still the university I attended (a very long time ago). To hell with everything else.

I think this was the right call. It maintains some semblance of continuity and Padgett is a really sharp guy with a bright future.

As to the long term - I wonder if you guys will look to the NBA for a guy. The way these "superteams" are forming, only a handful of teams have a chance of winning a title in the next several years. I'd look at coaches who aren't in one of those jobs.
