He really isn't very likable. The more you get to see him, the less you'll like him it seems.
I have family in CT who express the same feelings. He wasn't the player Bobby was and overshadowed by Geno and Calhoun at UCONN. He needs to ditch the thin skin and quit being a Richard Cranium b/c he can coach. Until he does, expect more of the same.He really isn't very likable. A lot of coaches like him are jerks, it’s part of what makes them successful. He’s always been this way, but 2 titles just puts a bigger microscope on him. It also gives him more confidence and arrogance to act like a bigger jerk because of his success. Can’t help but think he has issues dating back to when Bobby was winning championships on great Duke teams while he was left in obscurity at Seton Hall. Then he gets some success as a coach and doesn’t know how to handle it because of the damage.
Half wsy agree with ya. His over the top competitiveness is what makes him successful, but being a jerk about it… is clearly a character flaw. And when things don’t go right - things quickly fall apart and the players will begin to doubt and turn on him. It’s a known fact that when things are good - all is well, but when things go bad and in times of adversity that’s when you see someone’s true character!A lot of coaches like him are jerks, it’s part of what makes them successful.
