D1

The Cards were ranked 18th in another poll last week, but D1 is where it's at. Great to see the recognition. I've said it before. I like this team.
We have to get everybody healthy and being their best version on that pitching staff. I'm gonna try to get some info on Parker next time I'm at the park.

Couldn't get over to the first base side. Too much family and grandkids to do any digging. I hope he's able to go soon. We sure as hell need him.

Isn't it a bit odd there haven't been injury updates? Normally, something will leak on social media, but there's been nothing.

How long do we stick with King at the DH position? Hasn't hit the ball well and appears to be a liability as a base runner. What is the full extent of his injury?

No problem for him to rotate in as DH vs lefties with Lippe. But, unless he starts to make meaningful contact I don’t see why he should get more playing time.

It would not appear that either Klein or Detmers are returning this year; hope I am wrong, but we could sure use both this year!

I heard that Klein could possibly be back for ACC tournament but not even hearing what the issue is with Detmers is anybody's guess. I'm thinking no ligament damage so a lot of rest/recovery and avoiding any surgery. I would say there's a low probability that everything will be good to go.

I did see that Klein’s forearm was in a cast. Possibly could be back by mid-May, depending on how significant the break is. What’s the thought on Detmers? Any clue as to what his injury is?

+4 to 14th

The meat of the schedule coming up. Freshmen pitchers becoming Sophomores to contribute is key 🔑

Definitely need some positive results with Clemson and FSU. Not getting swept is #1. #2 Getting a series win with one of them would be great. #3 Sweeping one of them would be extraordinary.

The reckoning awaits. I was almost ready to put this offense up there with some of the better ones under Mac,but realized it’s too soon. By the end of April,we’ll be able to have a better idea about that.

I don't pay too much attention to Warren Nolan's stats but our offense is ranked 41st in run differential (thought we would be better), 14th in runs scored and 11th in hits/game. Our defense is ranked 105 in runs allowed and 81st in hits/game.

Just noticed WKU is 20th. It'll be a ball game tomorrow.
I typically don't put a lot of stock into midweek games but the Hilltoppers currently have the #1 lowest staff ERA in the country, 2.67. Might be a good thing we are playing them here, they are 22-0 in Bowling Green.

WKU will be a challenge. They are 31-5 with series wins vs Dallas Baptist @Dallas, Liberty @ Liberty and Kennesaw State @ Kennesaw State. Topper's took Vandy to extra innings before losing 3-2 @ Vandy. It could be an ugly 4 game stretch for the Cards.

If you throw in @ uk and then FSU back here,it's the teeth of the schedule I've talked about. It's reckoning day.

Don't get swept in any series, try to sweep the ND series, and possibly split some of the midweek games. From a value performance beating WKU is probably more important than beating the kitties...

In terms of staying in the hunt for an NCAA berth,I agree. I was thinking more in terms of what kind of team we have. We’ll know after the next 9 games imo.

Well I heard that Forbes is not starting this weekend so I also take that to mean, not pitching. I think Dan said "arm fatigue". I think that cuts down our hopes for winning the first game but hey its baseball. Time to step up boys! Also I thought Alecea would be back by now but maybe they wanted to wait until this weekend.

Great 😫 Our pitchers struggle to throw strikes. Our pitchers tend struggle if they get runners in base. Our pitchers get hurt. Doesn’t this ALL boil down to one focal point?

Forbes cannot throw strikes for whatever reason. Last week his pitches were all over the place. He's only gone as long as 4 innings once in his career. He played short stop in high school and was Perfect Game's Kentucky Player of the Year/Max Prep All American at that position. I see a position move in his future. No idea if that comes how he takes it.

No wonder he's got arm fatigue. We were talking about this after he pitched last week. Williams calling 80% fastballs and Patrick overthrowing adds up to arm fatigue.

I think earsky said it best. The scouting report is out on Forbes. Hitters know to be patient, and if Forbes starts walking batters, his confidence tanks. Smart move to sit him. Our bats need to become alive. Offense will have to lead the way. Someone else mentioned avoiding a sweep this weekend. Couldn't agree more. We just need to take one.

It wasn't that long ago UofL never lost an ACC series. Now, we are hoping for just one win. Times have changed.

<EDIT> If Forbes sits out the opener against Clemson, or the entire series, I think I know why. Clemson is #4 in the nation in base on balls. Looking at their stats, I was wondering why they are so good. Their team BA is good, not great. .284, ranked 121st in that category. UofL, by comparison, is 9th in the country, batting .327. That's tops in the ACC. Clemson isn't a power team, nor a big base stealing team. UofL actually has more dingers, 49-44, and the base stealing isn't even close, 82 to Clemson's 49, which isn't bad.

Along with base on balls, Clemson is top 20 in HBP. They've been plunked 76 times. 62 times for the Cards. OBP is a tie, pretty much. Clemson .426, Cards .424.

There is a difference in ERA. Clemson 4.53, Cards 5.27.

I guess what I'm trying to say is Clemson is beatable. They aren't vastly better. Cards can definitely get a W, or two.

Forbes is not starting due to arm fatigue. Yes, he does give up walks, he's listed at #5, but Peter Michael gives up more walks than Forbes, hes at #2 in the ACC. I would agree that the arm fatigue may cause the walks, but it would also mean that we would have more reason not to pitch Michael. In comparison, Clemson's starters are listed at #19 and #22. BTW, GT leads ACC in hitting at .337. We are 2nd, which is good. This might be a classic matchup of offense vs defense. Another telling stat is that our pitching staff only has 6 saves compared to Clemson's 16. That might indicate their bullpen is stronger than ours.
