Glad to see they were able to work this out with Petrino. I like the fact UofL rewards it's coaches when they actually achieve something on the field.

100% of the time it's paid for by the fans - see $3 per game ticket increase.

Who do you expect to pay these coaches? Better the fans, like you and me, than the taxpayers. We should be happy that we don't have to depend on taxpayer dollars to pay our coaches.

I don't mind paying a little more to keep a good coach. What would upset me is giving a bad coach a long term extension so outrageous that you couldn't afford to get rid of him.

Remember they are the only show in Town each fall. After 33 years I'll keep paying for the product as long as things are well managed and the results are positive. Our program is continuing to rise and if you want the end result a NC you have to pay. Timing can be unfortunate for the increases --but we have to pay for the bells and whistles (training rooms, exercise equipment). The facilities that NIKE has paid for at Oregon are fantastic!!

I'm not naïve - I get that the fans pay the freight again as I mentioned in the basketball thread - this is tone deaf for the university - is Petrino really due a raise?

Compared to the most expensive tickets in college football. Louisville football tickets are a good deal. When you consider what fans of some teams pay and the on the field results Louisville football tickets are a downright bargain. Listed below are last years secondary market ticket prices Top 25 from Tigig.com
CJ

http://blog.tiqiq.com/2015/08/2015-tiqiq-college-football-top-25-5-1/

25. Missouri | Avg. Price: $112.53

Last Year: NR | Price Change: +1.85%

Secondary market prices have not changed much for Missouri — up less than 2% from last season — but it was enough to get the Tigers into this year’s preseason Top 25. Even as the Tigers again proved to be one of the top schools in the SEC, winning the SEC West, but losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, the Tigers did not crack the end of season TiqIQ Top 25, either. The most expensive Missouri football tickets this season will come on October 10 against the Florida Gators with an average price of $163.34 and a get-in price of $70.

24. Utah | Avg. Price: $113.70

Last Year: 23 | Price Change: -4.74%

Despite a drop of nearly 5% in average price, Utah only dropped one spot in the preseason TiqIQ Top 25. The Utes worked their way into the AP Top 25 Poll by midseason before falling out after a 42-10 loss to Arizona in late November, but were able to sneak back in at the end of the season and finished at No. 21. The most expensive home Utah football tickets this season will come as the season opener against Michigan. The get-in price of $207 is more expensive than the average of any other game at Rice Eccles Stadium this season.

23. UCLA | Avg. Price: $115.37

Last Year: 4 | Price Change: -41.79%

UCLA was this year’s biggest faller in both rank and average price of schools still on the list. After a season that saw the Bruins finish 10-3 and as the No. 10 team in the AP Poll, they dropped 19 places in the TiqIQ Top 25 with an average price decrease of 41.70%. No other school dropped more than nine places or 30% from last year’s preseason poll. Some of the drop in price of UCLA football tickets can be attributed to the home schedule for the Bruins. While games against USC, Oregon and Arizona were played at the Rose Bowl last year, none of those top Pac-12 opponents will visit this season. Games against Arizona, Stanford and the annual rivalry with USC will all come on the road in 2015.

22. Clemson | Avg. Price: $115.37

Last Year: NR | Price Change: +16.1%

Clemson finished behind the Florida State Seminoles in the Atlantic division of the ACC last season, but enter 2015 as the only school in the conference ranked in the TiqIQ Top 25. The Tigers were not among the 25 most expensive football schools at the start of last season, but the price of Clemson football tickets has increased 16.1% on the secondary market after finishing the season as the No. 15 team in the AP Poll. Clemson’s most expensive game will come against Notre Dame on October 3 with a current average price of $406.45 and a get-in price of $230.

21. Florida | Avg. Price: $118.05

Last Year: 24 | Price Change: -0.33%

Only one school among the preseason TiqIQ Top 25 saw an opposite trend between ranking and average price. That school would be Florida. Despite a small drop in average price of -0.33%, the Gators jumped three spots in the rankings from the start of last season. 2014 was an improvement for the Gators after a 4-8 finish in 2013. While 2014 wasn’t great, the five losses came against tough competition and only two of those games were decided by more than one score. The most expensive Florida football tickets this season will come against the Florida State Seminoles on November 28 with an average price of $202.20 and a get-in price of $86.

20. Mississippi State | Avg. Price: $119.70

Last Year: NR | Price Change: +9.16%

There was a stretch of the 2014 season when Mississippi State was the top school in the country. The Bulldogs spent five weeks as the No. 1 ranked school in the AP Poll, before a loss to then-No. 4 ranked Alabama in mid-November. Even though the game against Alabama was the first of three losses over the last four games, last season’s performance is still boosting prices of Mississippi State football tickets this season. Mississippi State will try to get revenge in its most expensive game, against Alabama on November 14 with an average of $261.36 and a get-in price of $104 at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.

19. Oklahoma State | Avg. Price: $122.82

Last Year: 18 | Price Change: -4.38%

Oklahoma State only finished 2014 with a 7-6 record, but that hasn’t deterred Cowboys fans much from excitement for the 2015 season. While the average price of Oklahoma State football tickets dropped over 4% from the start of last season, the Cowboys only dropped one spot in the rankings. Oklahoma State found itself ranked through the middle of the 2014 season before five straight losses, four against ranked schools. The Cowboys got their biggest win of the season, though, against Oklahoma on the road. A home meeting against the Sooners on November 28 is Oklahoma State’s most expensive home game of the season with an average price of $246.15 and a get-in price of $105.

18. West Virginia | Avg. Price: $123.79

Last Year: NR | Price Change: +16.52%

Fellow Big 12 school West Virginia also spent a few weeks ranked in the AP Poll, but it was only for a stretch of three weeks and the Mountaineers did not eclipse No. 20. Still, even the brief success during last season has helped West Virginia football tickets jump over 16% in average price from last season and go from unranked to No. 18 on the TiqIQ Top 25. The Mountaineers are still finding their way in their new conference, entering their fourth year in the Big 12. After a 10-3 record in its final season in the Big East, West Virgina has yet to win more than seven games in a season in the Big 12.

17. Oregon | Avg. Price: $124.02

Last Year: 8 | Price Change: -18.57%

Lose the National Championship Game, and a star quarterback, and secondary market ticket prices will drop. That appears to be the case in Eugene, where the price of Oregon football tickets has fallen 18.57% from last season. It’s understandable, since behind Marcus Mariota, the Ducks were Pac-12 and College Football Playoff favorites. This season is a little more unknown, but the Ducks have only lost four games in the past two seasons under Mark Helfrich. A game against Oregon State will be the priciest at Autzen Stadium with an average price of $203.98 and a get-in price of $86 on November 27. It is currently the only Ducks home game with an average above $200.

16. Penn State | Avg. Price: $125.72

Last Year: 10 | Price Change: -16.1%

Penn State is the first of four Big Ten schools that will appear in these rankings. Last year they opened the season with the second most expensive tickets in the conference, but have been leaped by two others. A disappointing 7-6 season in 2014 dropped the average price of Penn State football tickets 16% on the secondary market. However, with the promise of Christian Hackenberg at quarterback and a defense that ranked seventh in the country in points against last season, the Nittany Lions could take a step forward. The most expensive game is currently the last of the season at Beaver Stadium, a November 21 meeting with the Michigan Wolverines, with an average of $189.67 and a get-in price of $87.

| Avg. Price: $129.33

Last Year: 6 | Price Change: -22.11%

Expectations were high for Oklahoma entering the 2014 season. The Sooners were ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP Poll and stayed in that spot until the end of September. However, October started with a loss to TCU and started a stretch that would alternate wins and losses, those losses coming against Kansas State and Baylor. The drop in performance also led to a drop in price this season as the average price for Oklahoma football tickets is down over 22% from the start of last season, resulting in an 11 spot drop in the TiqIQ Top 25. The most expensive home game will come against TCU on November 21. The Red River Rivalry against Texas Christian University will bring the most expensive tickets on the secondary market with an average of $476.43 and a get-in price of $182.

14. South Carolina | Avg. Price: $129.94

Last Year: 13 | Price Change: -7%

After three straight 11-2 seasons, disappointment happened for South Carolina pretty much as soon as the 2014 season started. The Gamecocks were ranked No. 9 in the AP Poll heading into the season, but a 52-28 trouncing from Texas A&M in the opening week quickly dropped them out of the top-10. Five weeks later, they were out of the Top 25 completely. The disappointing 2014 season led to a 7% drop in average price, though just a one spot drop in the Top 25. The most expensive game at Williams-Brice Stadium will come on November 28 against Clemson, with an average price of $239.80 and a get-in price of $124.

13. Arizona State | Avg. Price: $132.82

Last Year: NR | Price Change: +69.15%

A surprising 62-27 loss to UCLA in October dropped Arizona State out of the AP Top 25, but a string of wins through the end of the season brought the Sun Devils back to No. 12 in the final poll. The late season surge helped boost the price of Arizona State football tickets 69% over 2014. The Sun Devils entered last season with an average of only $78.52. The high prices in Tempe are aided by some premiere home games. Games against Arizona, USC and Oregon will all be held at Sun Devil Stadium.

12. Baylor | Avg. Price: $139.74

Last Year: NR | Price Change: +37.92

Baylor missed out on the inaugural College Football Playoff, but the season long dominance showed by the Bears has helped carry excitement into 2015. Even with the loss of Bryce Petty at quarterback, the Bears are expected to be one of the top teams in the Big 12, and that has been a big reason why the price of Baylor football tickets has jumped almost 38% over the beginning of last season. The most expensive game at McLane Stadium will be against Texas on December 5 with an average of $228.26 and a get-in price of $96. It is currently the only Baylor home game with an average exceeding $200.

11. Auburn | Avg. Price: $152.91

Last Year: 19 | Price Change: +21.1%
Auburn played much better last season than its 8-5 record would suggest. By sports-reference’s strength of schedule metric, the Tigers had the second hardest schedule among all college teams in 2014, while they actually performed as the 10th best team by SRS. With a slightly easier schedule, there is hope the Tigers’ performance can be reflected more in the record. The price increase for Auburn football tickets is aided by a home game against Georgia, but more importantly hosting the annual Iron Bowl. Iron Bowl tickets currently have an average price of $516.89 with a get-in price of $240 on the secondary market.

10. Texas | Avg. Price: $155.07

Last Year: 16 | Price Change: +15.9%

Texas will be heading into the second season of the Charlie Strong era. 2014 was a rebuilding year that saw the team in transition finish with a 6-7 record. But heading into Year 2, hopes are high in Austin. Even while the team was not performing, the Longhorns still had some of the most expensive ticket prices on the secondary market, but Texas football tickets will be even pricier this year with higher expectations, with a jump of nearly 16% over last season. No Longhorns home game really stands out, with all roughly priced evenly. The most expensive game comes on November 26 against Texas Techwith an average of $165.20 and a get-in price of $46.

9. LSU | Avg. Price: $163.32

Last Year: 9 | Price Change: +7.96

Of the 25 schools on the TiqIQ Top 25 this year, LSU is the only one to stay in the same rank. Though even though LSU football tickets are still ranked ninth, the average price has gone up nearly 8% on the secondary market. The Tigers were one of a many teams that had a tough time navigating through the SEC last season, Sports-Reference’s SRS pegged them with the 10th toughest schedule in college football last season. That helped lead to an 8-5 record. LSU’s most expensive game this year will be against a team in a similar situation last year, Auburn, with an average price of $277.12 and a get-in price of $103 at Tiger Stadium.

8. Tennessee | Avg. Price: $169.33

Last Year: 12 | Price Change: +19.63

Tennessee hasn’t been in the SEC title picture for most of the past decade. For the past seven seasons, the Volunteers have finished the year with either seven wins or seven losses, no inbetween. That hasn’t deterred Vols fans, though, as Tennessee football tickets have increased nearly 20% on the secondary market from last season. The home opener at Neyland Stadium will be the most expensive of the season, September 12 against Oklahoma. The current average price for the game is $351.68 with a get-in price of $122.

7. Ohio State | Avg. Price: $172.21

Last Year: 1 | Price Change: -27.4%

Ohio State is the only school in the top-10 to be there despite a price drop from last season. It may seem strange that prices would fall so far after the Buckeyes won the first College Football Playoff, but the season average price for Ohio State football tickets can sometimes be based on one thing; do they play home against Michigan? Last season they did and it was one of the most expensive games in college football. This year that game is at the Big House, taking a premium game away on the schedule. Ohio State’s most expensive home game this year comes against Michigan State on November 21 with an average of $292.52 and a get-in price of $148.

6. Nebraska | Avg. Price: $178.98

Last Year: 15 | Price Change: +29.56
For seven straight seasons, the whole Bo Pelini era, the Cornhuskers have not lost more than four games in a season. In fact, they’ve lost exactly four in each of those seasons with the wins fluctuating from nine to 10. Nebraska has been one of the most consistently good schools in the country, whether playing in the Big 12 or Big Ten, though there’s never been a breakthrough season. With success expected again in Lincoln, it’s not much of a surprise that Nebraska football tickets have increased almost 30% on the secondary market.

5. Alabama | Avg. Price: $179.98

Last Year: 7 | Price Change: +8.57%

The Crimson Tide entered the inaugural College Football Playoff as the No. 2 seed, but were surprised by the eventual champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Alabama, like most seasons, is expected to be one of the top schools in the country in 2015. Despite losing out before the championship game, demand has gone up for Alabama football tickets on the secondary market. This also despite not having many major home games. Matchups against Georgia, Mississippi State and Auburn all come on the road this season. Alabama’s top home game will come against LSU on November 7 with an average price of $401.99 and a get-in price of $193.

4. Texas A&M | Avg. Price: $212.04

Last Year: 5 | Price Change: +10.65%

2014 started out with a bang for the Aggies. A 52-28 blowout of South Carolina in the opening game made many believe the offense would be just fine without Johnny Manziel and Mike Evans. That though held through October, but three straight losses in a tough stretch against Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama dropped the team out of the AP Top 25. Still, excitement remains high for the team coached by Kevin Sumlin and the average price of Texas A&M football tickets has risen over 10% from the start of last season. The most expensive game at Kyle Field will be against Alabama on October 17with an average price of $436.08 and a get-in price of $157.

3. Michigan | Avg. Price: $222.99

Last Year: 25 | Price Change: +97.97%

The biggest jumper on this list, by far, is Michigan. Stuck before the 2014 season started with a weak home schedule, and compounded by disappointing performances on the field, the state of Wolverines football was at a low point. But now after the hire of Jim Harbaugh and two premium home games, the price of Michigan football tickets on the secondary market have almost doubled from last season. Michigan will host the annual rivalry game with the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes, but that won’t even be the most expensive game at the Big House. That’s currently an in-state battle with Michigan State on October 17, which has an average price of $417.63 and a get-in price of $124.

2. Georgia | Avg. Price: $240.82

Last Year: 3 | Price Change: +15.08%

Throughout much of the 2014 season, Georgia played like one of the top teams in the country. But two surprising losses, one to South Carolina a week after the Texas A&M blowout, and one to a reeling Florida team dropped the Bulldogs out of the national title picture. Still, even through that, games at Sanford Stadium remained among the most expensive in college football and the price of Georgia football tickets has gone up 15% on the secondary market over last season. That is greatly aided by a home game against Alabama on October 3, which is one of the most expensive college games of the season. It currently has an average price of $585.20 with a get-in price of $261.

1. Notre Dame | Avg. Price: $290.35

Last Year: 2 | Price Change: +27.32%
Notre Dame tops the list as the most expensive school on the secondary market this season. That does not even count a November 11 matchup against Boston College at Fenway Park, which has an average over $900 with a very limited secondary market. The most expensive Notre Dame football tickets this season at Notre Dame Stadium will come during the yearly rivalry game against USC. Notre Dame vs USC tickets on October 17 have an average price of $473.95 with a get-in price of $214.

Salaries are not based on performance as much as they're based on the marketplace. If Petrino is worth $4.5 million to someone else, that better be close to what you're paying him. It matters very little whether he got the 9th or 10th win...

Who do you expect to pay these coaches? Better the fans, like you and me, than the taxpayers. We should be happy that we don't have to depend on taxpayer dollars to pay our coaches.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!
And it's better than then the students paying for it.
