I spoke with my friend Joe Kelly before the season. He told me about his and Mark’s idea to interview UofL football Alumni on the 93.9 “The Drive Show”. The goal was to engage football alumni and hear about their time at UofL and their current situation. After the first interview Joe learned that the football Alumni felt unwelcome by UofL and realized how much they wanted to feel connected to the program again. After a couple of more interviews (on Thursdays) Vince Tyra contacted Joe and told him he loved the interviews and to keep it going. Tyra said he wanted to see these Alumni feel part of the family again. So Joe and Mark kept it going and today they got the news they hoped to hear one day. Vince Tyra and UofL has emailed the football alumni and invited them back! Offering them 2 tickets to the UK game, a tailgate before the game, and a tour of the facilities.
I’d like to say thanks to Joe and Mark for doing what they did in engaging the football Alumni and allowing them to be real and share their true feelings , not some filtered b.s. rainbows and unicorns. By being real UofL got better by listening and correcting a problem that existed for way too long!
