What he doesn’t mention is other rule changes that have contributed as well, such as allowing use of hands to block and free substitution after WWII, which resulted in players conditioning less for endurance and more for short, explosive violent bursts of power. Rule changes and the face mask have resulted in an increase in injuries. Ironically, all this was done to supposedly make the game safer. Now, the sport itself is st risk.
