has become Kentucky's and Louisville's pride at another....
and a great bit of the state and country are appreciative of the model you have established for the right way to run an elite program. Without conniving, paying off, sucking up to the players and telling them that they are the reason for the fans living (gag) etc. Instead you have taught them to appreciate their community, each other, and hard work and effort and as a result we enjoy a rewarding emotional connection to our team and visa versa. L1C4. We know you aren't perfect, but you are one helluva coach and I thank you for choosing our school and community!! Amen?

Had he turned down the UofK head coaching job in 89, we might have already been rid of that cesspool school in Lexington. I'll never forgive him for cleaning it up just so they could get a new beginning.

I was going to mention that item in my post but thought I'd leave it for another time. When he took the job at sUck...he was.... can you believe it..... mislead regarding the nature of their complete infractions and the level of restrictions etc.that he would have to deal with as laid down by the NCAA for their rampant cheating.... I wonder if he ever completely forgave them for that?

The irony that the man who led them out of the lowest place any program was in since the 50's is now their most hated person in the world. Nit's called biting the hand that feeds you. The other irony is the story that Dickie V tells about what Rick did for Cal to get the UMass job. He put up a car and club membership and Cal still belittles Rick at every turn, because the fans love it. He's really just a tiny little man who craves attention regardless of who it hurts. I want to personally want to thank UK for giving Rick the training needed to become head coach at the finest school in the Commonwealth.

Even death threats against their "savior"

Amen! He will be missed when he leaves no matter who the new coach is. Some don't understand or appreciate how lucky we are to have him here and have stability in the basketball program. Have heard several players say that he taught them how to become a man in addition to a basketball player, which s ultimately much more important. So glad we have a coach that has matured over the years and isn't into petty nonsense that we hear from THE SELF PROCLAIMED MAGICIAN.

If he's teaching them to be fine, upstanding young men, why is Chris Jones going on trial for sexual assault?

Oh I don't know, the old saying of "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" comes to mind. In the end, everyone is responsible for their own actions Grover. If you are the Grover I think you might be, you of all people should understand that.

Made any claims about being a cop on security detail for the UK basketball coach lately? Grover? Sales?

I posted this in another thread, but Cue is right on - these guys have to take responsibility for themselves. We send 18 year old kids off to war - why would they need a babysitter in college? Whether its Chris Jones or Chuck Hayes or Richie Farmer or whoever, it shouldn't reflect on the school they attended or the coaches they played for. Rick Pitino isn't responsible for Chris Jones allegedly assaulting a woman any more than he is responsible for Farmer ripping off the taxpayers. In both cases, it falls on the individuals and the choices they make.

...and, of course, Jones is still playing so his team has the maximum opportunity to win more glory. CRP simply doesn't care about the moral underpinnings of the team.

Great thread, OP!!

What about Jones' rape and Rick's adultery? It's fine to like your coach but don't blab about how great he and his players are in the same season one got kicked off for raping a girl.

Legally, Chris has done nothing yet. He has been accused of doing something but is innocent as of today.

As for the adultery, all I can say is meh. The majority of men cheat on their wives and significant others. Why should coaches or anyone else be held to a higher standard?

He has over 80 coaches out there who played or worked with him. 28 of those coaches have become head coaches. 10 active head coaches out there. If UK is so classy why have they had four different ex players go to prison in just the last two years. UK also had, two rapists, two child molesters and even murderer out there still. They haven't even gone to grand jury yet and Chris already has the majority of the people at the party saying it didn't happen. Your new at this, but we refrain from convicting people on sites until a jury says so.

I agree completely. Jones is charged, but not convicted. He is innocent until proven guilty!

In that same vein of fairness, Calipari has never been convicted of wrong doing. Accused, never convicted.
The offenders were Marcus Camby and Derrick Rose. Technically, Calapari was a victim, along with the team mates and schools, who had wins vacated, etc. Like you implied, innocent until proven guilty.... ;)

Now, I will say the idea of Calapari as an innocent victim is hard to swallow. But if we are not convicting people ourselves... what choice do we have? The court of public opinion has not bearing in these matters...

Wait, I thought I read the words 'Model' and 'Program' in that post about Louisville basketball. We have a week before April 1st. Who jumped the gun!!!!!

Wayne Blackshear is the first Louisville Cardinal to go to 4 consecutive sweet 16's. That is the nugget I heard. Of the original topic but thought I would add it.
I also agree with op. Thanks coach P.

Calipari is guilty of being the slimiest least respected coach in America...every public poll said so and the UK fans lead the poll in convicting him prior to him being their coach lol

But it was not morally wrong for Cal to leave Kansas with his AD's wife. Rick's family is still together, but I can't say the same thing for Nolan Crimwell's.

Briggs, that story about Rick doing that for Cal was proven false by the man that hired Calipari. He said Rick actually tried to get him to hire a different coach and that he can't believe Rick has taken credit for the Calipari hiring. In that article it also points to Pitino as the man who started the rumor that Cal told a player that a certain coach had cancer and would not be around long. Google sports illustrated 2011, why Calipari can't catch a break.

Rick is getting his arse handed to him by Cal. 7-1. Calipari sure did not drag a university through the mud of the Karen Sypher fiasco. Dude tried to keep it quiet by paying her off, having his assistant marry her to keep her quiet, paying for an abortion. He only came clean when he was caught. Or Petrino breaking state laws by hiring his mistress illegally paying her state money, wrecked with her and tried to get a witness to lie to the cops. Yeah, what great leaders you guys have representing you. You have the nerve to call Cal slime because of NCAA violations he was not involved in? 99% of people would say what Pitino and Petrino did is a million times worse. Wow.

Dude, you keep bringing this up, in almost every thread, one of your often repeated tired arguments.... and it completely wrong.
(1) She was divorced (so he did not "run off with her" or "break up her family")
(2) She worked in the AD office, he was not married to the AD
(3) She was previously married to Nolan Cromwell

"Calipari also met his wife while on the KU staff. Ellen Cromwell, divorced from former KU football standout Nolan Cromwell, was working in the KU athletic department business office when they were introduced." LINK

Not that any of that really matters. RP had a dalliance, so what. That's between him and his family. The publicity was embarrassing, sure. That was a black eye for RP and the program, but in the end, no big deal.

Hate Cal and UK all you want... but don't make sh*t up... it serves no point and actually diminishes your argument when you make valid points.

No he was kicked off for breaking curfew. He is innocent until proven guilty. You know like Tubman, Chuck hayes.

I wonder where Chris will be watching the game tomorrow night? It's a shame he didnt follow simple instructions and accept discipline... I wish him the best as he tries to get help for a life of bad choices and hardheadedness.
