Here are Bobby Petrino's notes from today's Governor's Cup luncheon:
-Had 31 guys that stayed in May.
-Getting our guys to graduate at the end of their eligibility in December is focus so they don't have to come back and finish classes.
-Started summer workout program on Tuesday.
-Most of the freshman and transfers are here, says 3 guys not here.
-Keys this spring on defense: Introduce the new defense. Work together, all 11 guys working together. Play faster, rush the passer.
-Offensively worked Lamar under center. Did a real nice job of that.
-Should have great special teams play. Fast, long, and physical team.
-Mason King went under the radar. Set a record for net punting at Louisville last year.
-Will be good competition at the long snapper position.
-It's great for the freshman to be here in the summer time. That's why you see so many freshman playing now.
-I thought there were a lot of challenges off the field in the winter for Lamar. There was a period in there I really felt like he was getting worn out. Lost some wait.
-Lamar's weight is up to 206 which is the heaviest he has been here. Would like to start season at 210 and settle in at 205-208.
-Lamar loves coming to practice. Loves his teammates. Been a joy coaching him.
-Excited about the weapons we have. Jaylen smith has been back, healed up and full speed.
-Got some really good high school football players here in Kentucky the next few years.
-Big improvement in high school football since my first time here.
-Coach Summer's addition has also made us better at tight end with being able to move Coach Klenakis there.
-Really excited about Peter Sirmon. Great teacher, great motivator.
-Lorenzo Ward adds a lot. Whammy is his nickname.
-Lamar did the Clarkson QB camp. All reports he got back said he did an awesome job. Was a great experience for him. Will go to the Manning Academy.
-He played right around 196-197.Added most of his weight in his lower body, rear end. Still looks skinny in his upper body. Needs that so he doesn't wear out as the year goes on.
-Jeremy Smith is doing really well. That same injury Devante Parker, Jaylen Smith had. Jones fracture in the little toe. Trouble getting blood to it so have to heal it properly. Has been working upper body but has not run full speed yet. Should be full speed by July.
-If the baseball scoreboard is not right on Friday it is Jeremy's fault.
-Expect a lot out of Reggie Bonnafon at running back.
-Malik Williams is back at full speed. Really coming on at the end of last year before injury. He looks really good, bigger and stronger. This was his first off-season training at a 4 year program.
-Seth Dawkins and Jaylen Smith are big, physical fast guys.
-Dez Fitzpatrick had a really good spring. Showed versatility playing in the slot and outside. He is smart and picks things up quickly. Has more position flexibility because of this.
-Traveon Samuel is back, very explosive, and very fast. Did well running with the football after the catch during spring.
-Emonee Spence had Jones fracture in his toe last year as well.
-"I'm not over it yet" regarding the Kentucky loss.
-Rodjay Burns is on campus. Great to have him back. Committed to us for over a year and a half. Lost him that last week. Will redshirt this year then have 3 years to play.
