I saw where Champions Sports Bar & Grille is going away in Marriot Downtown. This was a spot many people hit up before and after UofL basketball games. One of the only sports bars in downtown Louisville. I went there a few times and was never really impressed with the place, but it was nice having a sports bar option downtown.
From the article:
The Marriott also is replacing its two restaurants, Champions Sports Bar & Grille and Blu Italian Grille, by year's end. Champions will close tonight for the final time and will be replaced by The Porch restaurant, a new Marriott prototype that will better tie into the city's food and bourbon scene. Greene said most of the ingredients will be sourced from local farms and companies, and the menu, which is still being finalized, will be centered around locally sourced foods, such as sorghum and artisanal hams.
True to its name, The Porch will also have an outdoor component extending out onto the sidewalk.
Early renderings of The Porch, which is slated to open in January, show a classic and contemporary restaurant and bar area with brown tones that remind you on first glance of bourbon. The Marriott employees at Champions will be retained and reassigned to new roles with the hotel during the renovations, Green said.
"The sports bar concept is is played out," Greene told me after the news conference. "We wanted something more contemporary and comfortable."
