Listening to the V Show earlier in the week and Bob had Mike Pratt on. I really like Mike and can actually tolerate most of what he says about college hoops. Sure, he is Big Blue all the way but he is he a good guy. However, during the call Mike referenced UCLA's record breaking NCAA Championship run from 64' through 75'. Instead of referencing them as the UCLA Bruins and giving them kudos for what they accomplished he called it the era of the Sam Gilbert UCLA teams. Sam Gilbert was a wealthy UCLA fan that was known to have funded the UCLA program during Wooden's dynasty years.
BFD...back in those days there probably were not five programs in the top fifty that did not have Sugar Daddys. Anyone that thinks UK, IU or UL boosters were not taking care of their players at the same time UCLA was dominating college basketball is out to lunch.
Yet, whenever UCLA's dominating decade of college basketball is mentioned around Big Blue fans they immediately attempt to denigrate the accomplishment. It is simply impossible for them to ever accept the fact that UCLA's greatness during that run was something no other collegiate program has ever or will ever likely accomplish again.
Well, I guess Sam Gilbert's estate must have helped kick their ass last night because the Bruins surely could not have won the game straight up. No way Steve Alford could outcoach Cal, right?
