We got a mulligan. UofL football has been giving another chance. The two game losing streak not withstanding, the Cards will have a chance to be back in the gang of legitimate title contenders....

for next season.

Win a with over LSU and the return of a still improving Heisman winner in Lamar Jackson, the Cardinals will be at least a top 10 team. The talk of a ACC championship will revolve around playing a Watson less Clemson here at PJCS and the road game at FSU against the revenge minded Seminoles. Kentucky will be the Cards toughest out of conference game.

Coming in at 10-2 after beating LSU, the Cards could be picked ahead of Clemson and FSU. Most likely 2nd, but once again playing week to week with playoff talk and the ability to control your own destiny. Jackson would be the odds on favorite to win the Heisman.

But, if LSU rushes wild on the Cards and Jackson gets sacked 12 times in a big loss, the perception of Louisville football will be much different. With a three game losing streak, the pre-season accolades will be few and far between. Lamar will still be the Heisman favorite but the team would probably be ranked near the bottom of the top 25. Again picked third in the Atlantic division.

I hope the guys, including the coaches, know what it will take to win this game. Maybe some more creative play calling or better tackling? It's not going to work doing the same thing against LSU's defense. The defense is going to fix in on Lamar and Petrino has got to do something about it. I have confidence in the players because the Cards are the hunter instead of the hunted. No more no respect for the opponent and a casual interest in playing the game. The guys should be pumped like they were against FSU. That's what it's going to take to beat the Tigers.

By playing LSU and their dynamic RB duo and stifling defense, a win here would be as big as any other big win in Cards football history. The bad feeling of losing these two games would be more fleeting as the expectations of the 2017 season again has the promise of something special. Do the guys have it in them? Will Bobby Petrino earn his salary? Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and even Chris Petersen have proven over and over that they do. Bobby has the chance to get a little closer.

We need as fans to thank our lucky stars to be able to play a team like LSU. After those two pathetic losses being pushed aside to play Tennessee or West Virginia could have been vindicated. Not to many opponents open your eyes as a player as LSU. They have some issues but they indeed have some dudes. The Louisville Cardinals have gotten a temporary reprieve. All it takes is playing and coaching your best. We wanted the big time. Here it is.

Excellent post. This is an important game for our future.

...Kentucky will be the Cards toughest out of conference game...
Can't argue with much of your post. Although you could have pointed out that the above is more an indictment of the quality of our OOC schedule. Still, I wouldn't count out Purdue giving them a run.

LPT Football: The best bottom feeder...

We will have hurdles next year. The OL will still suck We lose a lot of good players on D. JHC, Shaq Wiggins and DeVante Fields being the biggest losses.

We've already seen through injuries that the guys that are next in the secondary are not as good as JHC and Wiggins. They'll need to make tremendous strides over the summer.

The Good news is Lamar and the bulk of his receiving corps is back. Don't see any drop off there at all. Lamar needs to work on his accuracy and ball security. The biggest X factor next year could be Colin Wilson. True Freshman RB that is a stud. Radcliff and Wright had their moments, but neither was a true threat game in and game out to take some eyes of Lamar. Wilson could be that guy. Wouldn't be surprised to see him starting game 1.

The only hope for the OL is to possibly switch Telford from Florida and maybe snag a juco or two. If we go into next season with the current OL we have, Petrino better change the whole offensive scheme.

I hope we have some developing Red Shirts. It's what makes a lot of programs. Playing Tr Fr is not ideal year after year.

Hikutini is a big loss as well. Not sure if Crum is on his level.

I love the OP.

I think part of the problem with the program this year, was part of the OP's initial message. The National Champion radar talk.

I agree with the intent of the OP - it is a redemption chance to get heading back into the right direction and get positioned to be on the T10 radar, etc.

We just need to focus on playing solid - if we do that, the program can reach a high level. How high is TBD, and by setting the bar as high as title talk, it provides the potential for major letdown. We were served that pretty recently, no?

To the OP: How could we come in at 10-2 after winning this bowl game, when we are already 9-3? Methinks you need to make a revision.

Otherwise.....I like your positive outlook. NIce post.
