While improved, and pretty effective on the defensive end our bigs cannot finish a ham sandwich on the offensive end! Their lack of physicality is a killer, many of the guys need to step up offensively, including some of our guards too! Snider needs to find another 4-6 points a game to help out as well.

They're worlds better than last year, and most of our bigs will be around another year...

It is clear that we need major improvement from everyone else when we lose L & L. Ours bigs are better than last year (exclusive of Harrell), but they need a lot more improvement this year.

Onauku and Mango both are not very athletic and don't elevate and extend well on their shots. Anas and Spalding are pencil thin, which hurts their effectiveness on the block to make a move or score. I love their shot blocking ability, but offense, forget about it!

He's saying that those 4 returning bigs are better than they were last season.

I thought so until last nite.

Chinanu needs an attitude adjustment.
Mangok hurt his ankle.
Anas needs to finish and get stronger
JJ is a sophmore/freshman
Deng is hurt
Ray is a freshman.

These players hold the key how far UofL goes.

Not really. There is vast improvement with the additions of Lewis and Lee. The problems are those that plagued us last year and the year before. Making and finishing close shots, making free throws and finishing close games. If we can solve those issues, we'll be fine.

Huh ?

4 of the 6 played last year, and all 6 put together arent equal to Harrell.
I should have been more clear... Was referring to the guys who returned.

If you're looking at players like Harrell, you have to extend the comparison to our new players...

Zipp - last year the discussion was if you added onuaku and mango's stats together they made a respectable 5. Their stats last night were 9 pts, 10 Rebs, 1 block, 1 assist. Those numbers were very similar to last year but we also had a double double guy in Harrell. Obviously we don't this year unless you want to add up Mahmoud, Johnson and Spaulding. So do you think their stats are still defensible and acceptable?

One stat line from one game probably doesn't tell enough of the story unless your point is that they were above or below average. If you look at those two guys on the season to date, their combined stats are 39 mpg, 16 ppg, and 14 rpg. They're also hitting 59% of their shots combined.

Our schedule strength per RPI is 26th nationally.

Unless your focus is on how our 4s and 5s this year compares to last with Harrell, that's not a real debate. I don't think anyone was saying that we were going to be as well off without Harrell. But are we better at the wing and the backcourt with our "5th year" guys? Maybe, although it's a little early to tell for sure. And are the incoming freshman making better contributions? Looks like it to me so far.

Although it wasn't clear, my initial remark was about the combined play of Onuaku and Mathiang. Shorty started off complaining about the bigs, but he moved onto other issues with the team...

If Lee and Lewis get in foul trouble or worse get injured, where do the points come from?

Also if your frontline can get the opposing frontline in foul trouble, you increase
your chances of winning. Pretty much what MSU did to Onuaku. If he hits his
avg or close to it by staying on the floor, Cards win.

MSU didn't get Onuaku in foul trouble.. Onuaku did, just like the previous game, although it didn't hurt us.
And the same coaches teach him that instruct the other guys. Same refs are referee-ing.

When he fouls, it's on him...
