Brohm??

Brohm - when asked about the UofL job.

“OK, those are all good questions on the Louisville job,” Brohm said. “You know what ... after being at Purdue two years when it came open, that was a tough call. Tough call.

“To be quite honest, through my schooling and how I was raised, I believe in at least trying to do the right thing and having morals and values. It just was too early to leave (Purdue for U of L then). It just wasn’t right.

“You build relationships. People treat you right. The people there have treated me great. You talk to recruits and they asked me things. Just a lot of things went into it.

But, obviously, now we’re on year six. I love this town, this area. I’m an alumnus of Louisville. So anything can happen in the future.”

If that’s not expressing as much public interest as is prudently possible by a coach with a current HC gig - I don’t know what is.

If UofL is “broke” (false) how are they able to continue to pay Sunbelt Scotty? You want to see broke? Check out ticket / suite revenues should this meltdown be allowed to continue.
I just don't buy into the idea that UofL wouldn't figure out a way to get rid of Satterfield if that's really what needed to happen. Satterfield wouldn't want to stay around and UofL doesn't want to employ a coach simply because we can't afford to fire him. I would wager with 2 years left on his deal after this year and a buyout that drops below $5 million that the school and Satterfield could come to terms on his exit. He and his family have always seemed to be a "fish out of water" up here anyway and would probably jump at the opportunity to head back to North Carolina.

If Scott only wins 6 games or less and especially if he has more no-show games or gets obliterated by UK again he's not going to be our coach next year regardless of how people think are finances look.

There are two paths for this season and program right now under Satterfield - flop hard and make firing him easy or pull an absolute 180 and finish the season with 8+ wins.

Too many really good co-ordinators out there to think Brohm is our only option. Jeff had his chance to come here and passed it up. One big win is not setting the world on fire in the big ten. If Satt doesnt come back strong this year its time to go after a hungry young coach that wants to make a name for himself. It has worked in the past.

Worked in the past? UofL is 3-3 with that philosophy. And none of them -successful or unsuccessful - stuck around more than four years. How many of those P5 OC’s or DC’s do you think would stick around if successful?

History has told us ZERO.

That - I believe - is the differentiator with Brohm. Ability is a must but without stability, this program will continue to bat .500 - which is a terrible average in football.

4 years is the average HC tenure. A legacy would figure to go beyond that, especially if they are successful. Think Pat Fitzgerald Northwestern. They can also put admin in a bind if they aren't successful. Think Scott Frost Nebraska.

OTOH, former assistant coaches with no HC experience did put the Cards through some truly great times. Petrino 1.0 with the Orange, Charlie with the Sugar.

What we need is a HC that knows how to recruit and have a confirmed strength.

It will be interesting to see who is next up if Satt is done. Fans may get the hire they want, then end up wishing they didn't get that hire they wanted. Or they might get a guy they didn't want and end up glad they did.

I wonder what the AD at Purdue thought when Brohm expressed interest in the Louisville job last summer.
It’s pretty rare for coaches to express interest in a position where there is no vacancy. Some would call that low class.

A coach providing an honest answer to a question? Some would call that refreshing.

It sounded evasive to me. “You never know” is a non-answer. Of course you never know. He certainly doesn’t want to close any doors. It’s not really an expression of interest.
