On fg's and extra points. Still can't get a kick off to the endzone though............

Isn't he instructed to kick the ball in play so the coverage team can keep the returner inside the 25 yard line. That is why he kicks the ball to the edge of the field.

I would prefer he kick it out of the end zone. No returns, less injuries and just give them the ball on the 25 yard line.

If he is instructed to kick like that, it's because he can't hit the endzone on most kicks. Simply doesn't have the leg strength. Totally agree with you about injuries, but you also have to consider stud returners. Would you rather them take a knee in the end zone or give them a chance for the return? Jaire Alexander is a stud returner. I know he brought back at least 2 last year. Before he got hurt, Purdue made him a non factor by kicking too deep to return.

Then surely we should be able to find someone who can kick the ball 70+ yards to the back of the end zone. That maybe his only on the field job, but it would be worth one scholarship.

Yes, the strategy Petrino stated earlier is to pin them in and create opportunities. We actually got a fumble recovery from this strategy in the Purdue game so this worked. Against teams with better special return games, I would agree to kick it out of the endzone, if possible.

Remember one of the 3rd Qtr kickoffs which landed out of bounds and gave Purdue the ball on their 35 yard line? He has a small window to kick in with that strategy and it was in an indoor arena. Most of the games will be outside with the wind.

Our place kicker is solid for all the skill functions, just find a big strong legged lineman to kick he ball out of the end zone when we face a team with a STUD returned. Just a thought.

Our coach, who gets paid to coach, outweighs our opinions.

He has said numerous times he has ZERO desire to give the other team 25% of the field. That he fully believes, and expects, our STs, to get the other guy inside the 20 more often than not.

Moan and groan all you want, this is how it is, and will be, until he says differently.

Seriously, if CBP wanted kicks in EZ don't you think by now we'd do it, or have someone who could?

I acknowledge all the facts mentioned above and expect our STs to perform at a high level. I was just sharing an alternative solution, just like handing the ball off to an enormous lineman on the one yard line to score a touchdown.

I don't moan or groan about anything in life. Every moment is too precious to waste time on the past.

Peace.

I gotcha.

It's potatos and potatoes. Personal prefs.

I do think we have bigger problems to fix than KOs though. :)

I fully agree. The OL false starts and having an effective RB are my greatest concerns. All said and done I feel we have a good chance to win the ACC for the first time.

He had 81 touchbacks in HS. Plenty of leg ... many coaches don't want to "concede" 25% of the field on a kick off. BP said today that the average starting point for Purdue afer KOs was 21 yard line. I can assure you Blanton is coached to angle the ball, and target the 2 yard line to 2 yards deep into the end zone. I am a Bama alum, and Saban is the same way.

I can absolutely assure you we would love to have him at Bama!

Creque will get a shot in the NFL some day. Mark my words. I can eat crow if he never sees an NFL roster.
