Bowen enrolled at UofL

It's either him or there is another Brian Bowen on campus. Which is possible.

It seems that Deener has had a good source on what Bowen was going to do. The other day he was talking about him as if he had already signed.

Big get. Adds depth to a talented team. Could put the Cards in top five. Like his video, like the way he finishes at the rim. Gonna make practices very competitive!

Would be great if it is the Brian Bowen we're hoping for but I'm not getting my hopes up until it is confirmed.

All Crystal Ball has chosen Louisville since 5/31. 5/30 was foggy.

Went from 15% Louisville to now leading by a larger margin at 50%

He is confirmed enrolled into summer classes at UofL. Has yet to sign financial papers to confirm playing on the 17-18 team..

With him announcing that he is announcing commitment on June 3rd at 4pm EST.. I would say UofL is in a great spot and all signs pointing to UofL according to many expert analysts.

I'm sure there are other examples....but I can't think of a team coming out of nowhere this late in the game to steal a kid this talented. I mean one could argue this is the biggest recruit Rick has ever signed.

Bowen isn't a projected one and done kid but is still a massive talent.

It will be very interesting to see how Rick coaches this team. Williams, Perry and Bowen all project to get major minutes and one could argue that Rick's 3 best players are Adel, King and Bowen....all 3 6'7 around 200lbs all 3 are more scoring centric wings that aren't necessarily physical or the type to seek out contact.

Bowen adds another scorer. I've been pessimistic in regards to this team but Bowen's addition to this roster makes it arguably the most talented offensive roster Rick has ever had. Rick's a physical, defensive minded coach...but his roster is going to be the complete opposite and he's going to be able to put multiple scorers on the floor with any given lineup.

How much impact did VJ King have this past season? That's your most recent data point...

There's a fine line between hoping new guys contribute, and expecting them to contribute. I admit to being on the hope side. It's kind of mind boggling how many posters carry some kind of "expectation" for incoming FR.

I admit I was hoping King would carve a significant role last year, I thought he was a necessary piece if the team were to make a deep run. I'm not saying I was right, but he wasn't a significant piece, and the team did not make a deep run.

It's really too early to put strong opinions out. If the Cards land this guy I hope he can get some minutes.

That said I still expect the team's success to hinge on the length of Pitino's suspension more than anything else.

This can't be right we don't get guys like this at least that is what some of our other posters always say. Getting Bowen just changed exspectations for this team.

Good perspective, hop. I seldom want to discourage optimism, and I like being optimistic myself. Where I part company is when the optimism IMO gets misplaced, like Pitino has adopted a new recruiting philosophy. That gets into the area of "wishful thinking" unless there's more substance to that POV.

I'll be glad if Bowen and KING are good enough in 2018 to go high in next year's draft. Those losses usually translate to good things for the team...

Is it confirmed that it is the correct Brian Bowen enrolled?

The thing about "hoping" Rick plays the Freshman is that this is the first year that Rick has openly said he's going to rely on Freshman and with how much he's went "all in" on recruiting Romeo Langford he can't afford to not let the Freshman work through mistakes and play an integral role for this years squad if he really expects to get Langford. He especially can't land kids like Bowen and Williams and not play them a bunch while at the same time selling Langford on the idea that he'll play a bunch as a Freshman.

(A) I don't think I've heard Pitino say much of that himself. And (B) sure you can sell Langford on coming to U of L regardless how Bowen and King perform this year.

All you do is convince Romeo--however you do that--that he's a special talent. And that he can't judge himself by how other "lesser" players perform. Hell, Lite does that every year.

BUT you're gonna have to convince me that Pitino's capable of that. I don't think he is. The two guys are nothing alike in terms of coaching philosophy...

I haven't followed it as closely - where/when has/did Pitino openly say he was going to rely on FR? I find it hard to believe he's going to say he's going to be relying on anybody.

There's also a fine line between him implying he really likes his FR class and him saying he's going to lean on them their first year in the system.

The configuration of this roster looks a lot like the team that lost to Sparty in the E8 a few years ago in terms of returning experience and incoming FR class.

I'd be supportive of seeing more guys play. The reality is that's not what this coach has done the last decade here, so I'll take a wait and see on that.

My first question on this is, what do you consider to be major minutes?
My second question on this is, whose projection are you referencing?

Well, we're losing 3 guys...Mitchell played 32 mins a game, Jaylen and Mangok played 21 minutes. Thats 74 minutes up for grabs. Anas played around 19 mins a game last year and while I expect his mins to go up, I don't think he's going to be playing 30+ mins a game. Ray might...he averaged 19 mins a game last year but basically split time with Jaylen. I would expect Malik to take over a healthy portion of Jaylen's minutes. Perry's is a little more tricky....WIth Bowen, Adel, King and Sutton....it will be interesting to see what Rick does with the lineups as he's got 4 wings/SGs there. Perry may not play as much as I originally thought.....He may just be a pure backup for Q which would probably net him around 10 mins a game.

According to Drew Deener. Biggest late signee since Trez. That one worked out pretty well.

Cardchronicle.com is also reporting that he is enrolling in summer classes at UofL, but yet UofL is one of 5 schools on his list (DePaul is one of them) and he is announcing on Saturday.

That is seriously one of the most WTF statements of all time. He's enrolling at UofL, but there is a list and we're competing with 4 other schools? This is why I follow recruiting only at a very high level, I just can't deal with all this stuff. The Maverick Rowan thing a few years ago just broke me on the process. That was the most classic example of millennial self-absorption.

Saw him play in game against New Albany. He is an offensive machine

Thats 74 minutes up for grabs.

Makes sense. I'm going to even add on the 9 MPG vacated by Levitch and Hicks - I know they both combined for 20 MPG the entire season but it seems they ate into each other's minutes when Hicks was healthy, so we're up to call it roughly 85 minutes.

Looks like the 1st Beneficiary is King. He was @ 13 MPG last year. Would seem 25 MPG would be the low side, let's write him in with pencil for an expected 30 MPG. That's a +17.

I'm pushing Ray to roughly 30 MPG. That's a +10.

Anas may surprise some people and be closer to 30 MPG, but I'll give him a cautious 25 MPG. That's a +6.

Adel was at 30 MPG. I'm going to move him up a few minutes, viewing him as the potential "top player" and get him 32 MPG. That's a +2.

Sutton got 0 MPG. This is where it gets really interesting. How large of a role will he have? We have no idea. We are now officially moving into "major speculation" territory. And that's going to be the case with the FR too. But given the history of Rick's willingness to play transfers - I'm going to pencil Sutton into a "soft" 18 MPG.

We're now up to +53 additional minutes used out of the 85, leaving us with what, roughly 32 MPG to give out to the FR - and that's assuming McMahon stays at the same and Rick doesn't find a walk on to give a few minutes out of motivation to the FR - which is actually highly possible.

That doesn't feel like a whole lot of minutes honestly. It looks like some part-time random minutes to go around.

If Deng is playing SG like people expect - I don't see where Perry's "major" minutes are coming from. It just seems unlikely Rick is going to dial back his SR PG's minutes substantially. He's never done that before.

I just don't expect the FR to play as much as fans around here do. I don't feel strongly about it. I've just seen this coach operate and I think people expecting "major" minutes for the FR are going to be disappointed. I almost wonder if people are doing this purposely to set themselves up for complaining when the team struggles. Not saying that's what you are doing.

We'll see.

Agreed this whole situation is a bit strange. I'm gonna keep enthusiasm in check until Bowen is a Card for sure.

It's already a shocker that he's enrolled at Louisville and we're in the race.

However, it would be the biggest shock ever if he does NOT come to UofL at this point.

Already enrolled, inside info, experts saying all signs point to UofL, Zagoria saying UofL, Slater, Goodman, etc. it would be shocking if he chooses elsewhere.

Bowen is a monster get. The best offensive wing in his class. He is at least as good as any recruit UK has coming in, and they supposedly have the #1 recruiting class. And don't forget, unlike our in-state kiddie core rivals, we don't have to rely on just freshmen. Better start making those Final 4 reservations now, before it's too late.
