Exactly. This and the scholarship reduction/penalties should put Cuse behind for a while. Unless they have a great hire in mind it would seem the Orange might be down for a long time.Originally posted by thecycle21:
That will be incredible for their recruiting!
I think that is a very logical way to look at the decision to keep Boeheim as the head coach. Keep him for 3 years while this mess he created is still smacking the program down, then get a fresh clean start with an up and coming coach they feel is ready to rebuild Syracuse basketball.Originally posted by jldown05:
Just spitballing... but I would not be surprised if the 3 years is how long the University officials think the sanctions will last. If they end up being less, he may be gone sooner, but they want to bring in a coach at the end of the penalties. It would be smart to do, unless we are to believe that bringing in a new coach and admin may cut the violations down? then it would be smarter to bring in a new coach now.
If that were how they were going to handle things, then just fire Boeheim and let his long term asst Mike Hopkins coach through the penalties. Why would you let a person who has mismanaged a program for several years continue to be allowed to mismanage things?Originally posted by Cue Card:

They'll have a tough road recruiting only if they're banned from post season play for any amount of time outside this year. So far, I don't think that's the case. Lots of kids in that area want to play for the program, and not necessarily for the coach. They'll be able to field a team with local talent until this is over for sure. They may not be great, or even good, but they'll be competitive because of the local pride those kids will bring in.

I agree KH. What does it take for a coach to be fired if not cheating long term and whatever else Boeheim has done.?Originally posted by Knucklehank1:

Probably because it's the easy way out while trying to preserve some of Boeheim's coaching legacy. I mean he has been there for close to 40 years. Maybe they feel they owe him some latitude.Originally posted by Knucklehank1:
