Billy Reed's commentary about the Governor's Cup.

He makes some good points (Can't believe I just wrote that.)
I have been to the football game in Lexington and had zero problems. It's a different story at the games here at Cardinal Stadium.

Maybe it's just me but I believe the game in Louisville attracts some of worst Kentucky fans. Usually the ones that can't handle alcohol and want to act more like adolescents than adults. Year before last a drunk Kentucky fan cussed the whole 1st half. They escorted him out at half time when he got into it with a Louisville fan seated next to him that got tired of listening to it.

I am a season ticket holder. My seats will not be used this week. I'm not going out there where a couple thousand visiting fans that can't their alcohol encounter a few thousand Louisville fans that can't handle their drink.

I usually give them away if I can't use them. With this illness I have been too sick to go to most of the games this fall. They will go unused this week because I don't want them to end up in the hands of a Kentucky fan,

That's the advice I give all Louisville fans to do. If you can't use your tickets, keep them. Don't sell them or give them away to Kentucky fans.

The 7pm kick off, yeah, that was a bad choice. Gives fans a lot of time to tailgate.

My experience at Lexington wasn't a good one. It was CBP 1.0 era where we jumped out to a big lead and we almost gave it away. In my case the very start of the game had two drunk UK fans behind me pouring beer on my seats every time I stood up to cheer for UofL. After I finally had enough I confronted them they stopped pouring beer but as the game got tighter they started making comments and pushing me in the back every time they made a good play. It came to an abrupt end when they fumbled the ball at the 1 yard line and we recovered the ball and ground out the last 3 minutes with several rushing first downs.

I do agree most UK fans at the UofL home games are fans that normally don't go to games at UK and have a vendetta for UofL, add in a good year for them, I am not looking forward to it. I have a feeling I will need to bite my tongue a lot or leave early so I don't get arrested.....

CardJim has been lucky. My nephew attended a game it was so bad he said he would never return. They have a bad reputation throughout the SEC.

The last time - and I do mean the LAST time - that I set foot in Commonfilth was kragthorpe's first year. We were the guests of a large uk booster and as such was on my best behavior - probably also due to being with my wife and parents. Despite the fact that at no point were any of us doing anything that remotely could be considered demonstrative in our behavior, there were a two little twerpy uk fans who had clearly over served themselves and despite the fact that they were also with their wives, were mouthy assholes. Out of respect for the invitation, I never said anything - though I was close on several occasions. It finally took our host walking down the aisle and telling them either to STFU up or he was going to "whip their ass" and or, call security. Of course we all remember that game - and how UofL lost.

You would think that uk fans would have been happy with the result however on the way out of the stadium, my 70+ YO parents and my wife and I, had several idiots get in our faces and yell some really vile comments. Will never go back - which I suppose was their objective. Outside of moutainqueer fans - yut fans are the absolute worst.

I was at the game in 2005 when Elvis had 6 sacks. The only game at UK I have been to. Honestly the fans were very hospitable. Only thing we even heard out of line was a few guys making fun of our Louisville attire as we walked in.

I have been to a few Louisville road games. I have never had any problem. I was raised that you don’t go looking for trouble, if you do you’ll find it. Seems to work well on road trips.

I was at last year's game in Lexington (dressed in a UofL hoodie and ballcap), tailgated with some friends and fans of both sides at the Arboretum, sat among all UK fans, and never had a single issue. The UK fans were so disgusted with their own team's play, they really never paid me any attention. I was also very reserved; only standing up on big UofL plays and clapping "politely", with no big shows of emotion. But then, I'm not really the loud boisterous type fan anyways. As I've said before, I've never had a truly negative face-to-face interaction with a UK fan, despite being a life long UofL fan who attended UK and still attends UofL games in Lexington.

I've been to the game in both stadiums. I've had good and bad experiences. It probably depends on the luck of the draw as to who sits beside you. All fanbases have fans the universities are not proud of. Although, I will say many u of l friends I've talked to said WVU was the worst, by far.

Hope your health improves so you can attend all of your games next year.

I think the Ky fans that live inside Jefferson County and in Southern Indiana are the worst of the worst Ky fans. They all have a huge chip on their shoulder. They can’t handle alcohol in a public setting. Ruin the fun for everyone.

They are all the worst - some are just worst-er :) than the others. If you were to scrape the bottom of the barrel you would come up with:

@irishcat1965
@blubo
@Dallas-Wild
@warrior-cat

Guarantee those four are all mouthy drunks - at least when they're behind the keyboard...

I think it comes down to how many Ky fans show up from Jefferson Co. that do not ever attend football games in Lexington. I know a bunch(and I mean a bunch) of Ky fans I grew up with that are season ticket holders that have been thru hell. They are as diehard as it gets,but they don't take it too far.

They have a deep respect for football that supersedes bad manners.

Considering how hard it is to sneak a flask into a game in Commonwealth and alcohol has never been sold there, I call BS on this whole story. But yeah... I bet they were wasting the beer they miracled into the stadium on pouring it onto your seat.

I have been to 2 games at Commonfilth in my life. One vs. Indiana, another one vs. UofL. I will never go back. Fans were terrible, vulgar. Even old women were foul mouthed.

And yes, Ky fans sneak plenty of booze into their games. The posters on here must be very bad at sneaking it in...

Never seen a single person sneak beer into commonwealth. Never seen a UK fan antagonize any other fan. But I do have video evidence of rival fans acting foolish in Commonwealth.

I remember an urban legend years ago about 60,000 liquor bottles being in the garbage after one ky home game.Granted,it was a long time ago.I highly doubt the number was 60,000,maybe more like 30,000.
Like I said earlier,I know a lot of UK fans that travel weekly from Louisville to Lexington...and lots of stories.

How hard it is to sneak a flask in?? I snuck in three bottles of bourbon at the Georgia game a few weeks ago. They don’t wand at Kroger.

There are bad fans and jokers everywhere. Kentucky has them. Louisville has them. West Virginia has them. Tennessee is almost wholly made of them. And I’m not sure South Carolina fans should be allowed to travel.

Most important is it shouldn’t be tolerated anywhere. I understand being young drunk and stupid. I don’t understand turning a blind eye to it as administration or security.

There is a big difference between bringing in beer and a flask of bourbon. I would think it would be pretty hard to bring in more than one or two beers.

Harder to do in the summer weather, but a lot easier to do when it's cold.

But the poster referenced the september game a few years back. I was there. It was hot and muggy. No one was wearing anything to be able to conceal beer.

I was at Commonwealth several times before the alcohol ban. Never had a problem other than some trash talking fans. I cheer for my team and never badmouth the other team so I dont have any issues. Dont start none, wont be none...

Basically Reed is saying, if there is any violence off the field then the series should be cancelled.

You cancel UofL-UK, then maybe violence happens at UofL-Clemson. The problem is violent people, not the rivalry.

These kinds of rivalry games happen all over the country and sometimes there is violence. Is Reed going to tell me some brawl that happens in the parking lot of Mississippi-Mississippi State, that they should end that rivalry too? If you cancel all the rivalry games then what do you have? A not very exciting sport.

Seems like old Billy is expecting the worst of the worst to come out and that it will escalate into tragedy. He uses 'society' as his basis of the reasoning. So he get his SJW points probably.

I go to games at both stadiums. There are bad actors at both. Some get way too wound up and do cross the line. And that is usually alcohol driven.

Its surprising how many Lexington area Kentucky fans are not planning on trekking west. I do not know of any season ticket holders planning on going right now. The Tennessee game definitely was a blow. Senior day was very disappointing fan-wise. As good as its been for Kentucky fans this season there is still some disappointment.

So maybe neither schools is ready to shed the 'basketball school' tags. Have fun Saturday and don't take it seriously. Ignore the inebriated - both blue and red - if they get too stupid.

PS. Airline liquor bottles work great at Commonwealth....err...The Krog.

Most moronic article I’ve ever read. Billy is senile and was always a bad writer to boot.

This was quite a few years ago and they didn't have metal detectors back then. Not sure how they got it in but they had multiple cans. You must not be very creative, I have never had much trouble when you wear a heavy coat.

I've been to every UofL / UK football game since 05, except for 09 at UK (Kragthorpe). The only bad experiences I had at any of these games was 07 at UK and 06 at UofL. They were the only two night games during the period and drunk fans from UK in 07 and UofL in 06 caused the problems that I saw.

As other have noted both fan bases have idiots. Combine a long period of drinking before the game and it's a recipe for problems. However, nothing at UK has come close to the experience of travelling to Morganhole, WV and encountering their fans in 05. That was the only time I've ever been physically afraid at a football game. The number of completely drunk WVU fans for a mid-afternoon start was something I've never seen before or since.

I won't be going tomorrow night. Just can't bring myself to watch this team again. A UofL fan has my ticket.
