Should be a no brainer - right?Put another big in 70-70 21 seconds left ND ball this sucks.
If I could have Liked this post 100 times I would have.It will be a miracle if a ref calls a foul on ND in this overtime.
We did layups and turnoversFeel like we blew that one!
Dominated is a strong word. However, HVL for the latter part of the game was held in check by, primarily, Citron. HVL’s ‘issues’ come from pressing too much to make things happen. Yet, if your teammates are not getting it done she doesn’t have much choice - so I give HVL some leeway in regards to some errors or questionable shots. My beef (and I stand ready to take the blowback) is the decision to put Josie in the game in OT. I knew she’d ride the bench in the second half even though she came in and was productive late in the 1st half. WHY bring her in cold like that? Olivia AND Liz had both been playing pretty well in the 4th. They had been active on both ends of the court. It made zero sense.I have to disagree with you on Citron dominating HVL. Citron had 15 points 11 came in the first half, HVL had 19 points half came in the first half the other half came in the 2nd half. ND assigned Citron to guard HVL and Louisville assigned HVL to guard Citron. Every time HVL and CC had the ball if they made a move to get a shot they were double teamed.
We are just a third double point scorer from being a better team. I thought OC did better on layups I think she only missed one and she made a couple heavily contested.
She releases the ball too soon at the wrong angle and the ball comes off too hard off the backboard. I think she could get to the rim anytime she wanted if she learned how to finish or at least get fouled.Morgan Jones must put too much English on the ball because she misses more layups than she makes.
Not putting the blame on Josie but responsibility on Walz having her in the game at the end and not Cochran. I get it Cochran has underperformed lately but putting Josie, who yes is a 5th year senior, but she also has not played in these close games at the end over Cochran cost us at least the potential of 4 points. Two points where she had the ball but couldn't secure it resulting in a TO and then on the next possession, ND went right at her and she couldn't stop the ND player from scoring. I think it was Watson, who ended up as ND's leading scorer who was able to get at least 2 successive inside scores. Then the next time down, Cochran comes into the game. Hopefully Olivia realizes this and the next time in that situation she'll be in the game. We will see.Walz wanted Josie's height out there and since she played well in the first half, he went with her again. She's not a freshman, she's a 5th year player. Had she made that 3 pointer, you would be saying what a great coaching move.
She in no way caused the loss and is part of Walz's deep team. It was the missed layups and missed FT's and the lucky game winning shot by ND.
Walz has a lot of options to choose from and he liked how Josie was playing. It made sense to me like it did benching Kono when she was reluctant to shoot.
That was nothing against Josie. I wish she had been put in during the third and fourth quarters. If she was playing so well why didn’t he play her earlier? Again, Inwish he would have. Playing her in OT when the other two posts were warm and had been playing well made no sense. Whether she made her shot or not - would not have changed my opinion.Walz wanted Josie's height out there and since she played well in the first half, he went with her again. I agree with Bardman on this. I'm pretty sure I have watched most of the women's games this year and I can't remember Josie playing many minutes in at the very end in close games. Granted this might have been a decision made by CJW because of Olivia's ineffectiveness of scoring lately but IMHO against ND on their home court was not the time... Hopefully the team learned something from the loss. That was nothing against Josie. I wish she had been put in during the third and fourth quarters. Exactly! Josie is part of the rotation so when Walz brings her in, it's a decision that he believes will help the team. Again, it's not like he put somebody in who rarely plays at crunch time.Josie was brought in by CJW as a result of witnessing ND‘ effectively defending and clogging up the inside and making Olivia ineffective.
Jeff wanted Josie to do exactly what she did ……. move outside and either attract the defense with her, or provide an open look for the 3.
It was a shot that Josie has hit with regularity and if she scored at that point, it could have changed the outcome. If nothing else, had she hit the 3, it would have accomplished the intent by forcing ND bigs to move out of the paint and guard Josie, which in turn would have provided HVL an opportunity to drive in the lane. ND had taken that away.
