Bellarmine

Knights take the lead. Good lord. Brown is a shadow and of what he was at the beginning of the year - he doesn’t look good. Rose with a TERRIBLE error is LF. These guys are thinking about something - but it isn’t baseball.

Yea, he made a long run but he probably should have caught the ball. Tague should have caught the ball from Munroe as well. These guys love shooting themselves in the foot.

I stopped watching. I think we have sent 6 pitchers to the mound and the game is in the 6th inning. The Knights have sent 3. Think about that. Just that. The wheels have officially come off.
Hard not to think that Mac lost this team some time ago. Have to wonder how much juice Mac has left in the tank after 19 years. This is Denny Crum territory and Chris Lemonis is looking for a job.

CDM hasn't sniffed a pitcher that can throw strikes without it being a meatball in years. Let's keep playing for two pointers when the 3 is driving the game. Would be really curious to know how our stolen bases match up to our walks passed balls and hbp's.

Not enough lipstick for that pig. A beyond unimaginable bad loss.

Hell,I'm worried we can't score enough runs this weekend to support the shaky pitching.

We struggled until we got into their midweek bullpen options last night. If ever there's a time for guys to get healthy, it's now.

Just like don’t see it happening. Fact is - other than Seniors there is no one (with the slight exception of Munroe) that is getting drafted. Outside of Biven every single pitcher should be coming back (not saying that is a good thing). The field players should all return (except those graduating). The team, offensively, will be loaded again next year. Still ALL comes down to pitching.

You guys finally realize the McDonnell magic is gone? Has been for a bit now, whatever the reason.

I used to never miss a Cards baseball game. Made all attempts to watch it on TV where I could. That changed last season and I have only watched a couple games this season.

The past several years the pitching has been horrible, defense very bad, and baserunning a complete joke. I just can't watch bad baseball, especially when it's the same issues each season.

Something has to change and if that means moving on from McDonnell, so be it. He's a UofL legend for building the program to elite status, but the program is regressing and he apparently cannot stop it.

Hard to argue with your points. They did get to a Super Regional final, what? 3 seasons a ago maybe. That was a bit of a surprise if I recall correctly. Technically they are having a good (not great) year. A regional 2 seed is there for the taking. Lots of key injuries. I think those of us who follow closely have high expectations and hosting a regional is the floor.
-Aggressive base running is fine
—Foolish base running takes runs off the table (this has happened too much)
-Great pitching takes you far
—Since 2020 the pitching has been below average
-Defense
—Meh, not horrible. The problem has been bad errors at bad times.

We're still gonna root for them. My feeling is that we have become a small market team despite playing in arguably one of the better leagues in America. Not sure even magic can fix it. I know what can,but we are what we are with $$$ and we might just need to adjust our expectations.

As well as I.

I pull for all the Cards and I love the game of baseball. And I don't like admitting that I'm having this apathy towards the baseball program. But losing to Bellarmine?

Today, I'm getting more out of following former Cards in MLB as the league is filled with them. I hope Brandon McKay can make it back from injuries.

That game summed up the whole season. Can't show up against a poor team with everything on the line. Same old sht. Horrible pitching, no clutch hitting and untimely errors.. We need to sweep this weekend but I wouldn't bet a nickel on us doing that. A team that can win a series against Clemson and FSU should NOT be losing to Bellarmine.

Inexcusable loss..

Interesting point about former players. I also enjoy following former Cards in the Big Show. I would hope that those guys that have signed major contracts that make them wealthy have given back to their alma mater?🤔
The Program sure could use it. In fact,I wouldn't be shocked if we lose 2,3 or maybe 4 guys to $EC teams after this season because we can't afford them.

That is an interesting point since the only name I see connected financially to former players is Tino Martinez, who didn't play here but contributed because of Lelo Prado.

I know we're going down a fairly deep rabbit hole about the funding of the baseball program, but Mac said on a live interview on the ACC Network a few weeks back that basically the cards(no pun) are being stacked against his program as he has to deal with 'poaching'(his word) of his players on top of trying to deal with the open market that has become college baseball. There's still a sting of the Kroger money not getting earmarked for the practice facility in Mac's derriere.
He basically put it out that he could use some private $$ to help out. At least, that's the way I heard it.

Speaking of former players, Dalton Rushing got called up by the Dodgers yesterday.

I know Henry Davis gives back. Will Smith, too.

I think that is a factor but who did they lose from their pitching staff over the past several years?

Pitching is the main issue since Covid.

The House settlement may calm the waters if NIL becomes actually what it is meant to be. Not many college baseball players will kill it in that world.

I can't answer to the issues with the pitching staff and I'd say that's partially right as far as losing pitchers already here.
I'd guess it's hampered more along the lines of getting better pitchers here.

He needs to get over that if this is the product he's running out on the field..

Probably not going to be a popular opinion but I think CDM needs to be put on the clock. If this is the brand of baseball we're going to get going forward it may be time to make a change..

Lets put this in perspective. Football finished somewhere around 27/28, basketball was ranked 21st in final AP poll, baseball has been ranked as high as 14 and yes they probably going to be outside the top 25 but still we want to fire Dan but the other coaches get a pat on the back? I do think a change is needed at the pitching coach level and if Dan won't do it then so be it but let's see how the season plays out.

I think he's been on the clock since the end of last season. Doesn't mean he could lose his job,but I know from a very good source that he and his boss...are not golfing buddies 😉

Munford has been a huge presence around the team unlike(imo) past years. Every time I look up I see that dude.

My comment :

"Probably not going to be a popular opinion but I think CDM needs to be put on the clock. If this is the brand of baseball we're going to get going forward it may be time to make a change.."

That's letting the season play out and probably next year as well, but if we continue to see the brand of baseball we're seeing now it's time for a change. We beat Vanderbilt, we lose to Bellarmine . We win by 10 runs one night lose by 10 the next night to the same team. Are we the team that beat Vandy or the one that lost to Bellarmine
? Pitching has been a bad product since covid (5 years). This team does not come to play everyday. Some of our losses this year have just been inexcusable..
