Last week the entire recruiting world blew up simultaneously with news that Bates was committing to us. But there hasn't been a commitment yet and it's been a week. Could just be that it's taking some time like Ree or BHH, but I'm wondering if the Bates stuff is all that real.
Payne has kept things pretty close to the vest so far, so every recruiting analyst and his brother having the Bates news last week was strange. It pretty clear came from the Bates camp calling around. The other piece is that Brendan Quinn (CBB reporter for the Athletic) said on the Moving Screen pod last week (a Michigan/Michigan St pod, great listen) that the Bates-to-Michigan smoke was almost entirely from Bates' camp and Michigan didn't have much interest. Is it possible that Bates is putting out all this heat about him coming here and Payne either isn't that interested or hasn't committed hard and fast yet?
