Associate WBB HC Stephanie Norman Steps Down

Stunned. Now is the time to get a coach who will hit the recruiting trail hard. I honestly wouldn’t mind if he brought Mykasa Robinson back. I do believe she coached at Charlotte this past season.

The coach Walz bought in from Clemson was doing a lot cf coaching during last season. Butler, Robinson or Pineda will propably move up.

Just my opinion here, but I suspect that this, along with Deion Branch taking over WRs for Garrick McGee, are two of the highest profile “cuts” we will hear about …got to find a way to trim $20.5 million out of this year’s budget to get next year’s to balance….

She has been a big part of our success, I wish her much luck. Tempe is a pretty attractive spot and a return for her.

I would love for them to bring Mykasa back if she recruits as hard as she plays defense it would be a win, win.

CJW and UL’s WBB Program is at a critical juncture right now, as its lofty position in this sport is in the balance of either decline or back to the top.

The NIL and the Transfer Portal “giveth and taketh away”; and while I totally appreciated Jeff pursuing last season’s Freshmen Recruiting Class, the results are still unclear.

UK made a strategic decision with a coaching change that resulted in bringing Coach Brooks, Amoore and Strack from VT to Lexington, all a function of having invested a lot of money. The results saved UK WBB from collapse, but failed to experience the level of success they expected.

Tell me how going 23-8, finishing 4th in the SEC and making it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament considered a failure? They hadn't made the tournament since 2022. Just wishing it were so doesn't mean its true.

Pretty simple, UK women’s roster, next to South Carolina was the most talented of any team in the SEC. Amoore and Strack transferring in from VT, along with Dazia Lawrence and UNC transferee Teonni Key gave Kentucky fans a lot of expectation, but losing 5 out of their last 10 games resulted in a disappointing season’s end. As far as UK finishing 4th in the SEC, actually they finished tied for 4th, the same as UL did in the ACC.

Personally, when I saw Brooks stepping in as HC for UK, and attracting Amoore and Strack along with Lawrence and Key …… I agreed with those UK fans who expected a serious challenge for the NC. Admittedly It was not a bad year for sure, but with all they had coming in, they were not much better than a very young UL roster.

I guess you see what you want to see. UK's women went from 12-20 and a 12th place finish to 23-8 and a tie for 4th place. If you cant see that as an improvement, you're not wanting to see one. Wasn't Kelsey good, but I would say overall pretty big improvement.

Big improvement, yes, but as 233 said, that season did not meet the expectations of UK fans, some of whom were expecting an NCAA Final 4 run or better, not a 4-seed and losing on their home floor in round 2.

You can certainly make a comparison to what Kelsey did here in his first year, but that’s discounting the fact that Kenny Brooks took Virginia Tech to a final 4 in 2023. He has a good tournament resume, which is just about the only thing missing from Kelsey’s.

Ok. Did our women meet the expectation of our fans?

Unlikely in some ways, considering that Jeff Walz has delivered conference regular season championships and final fours in the past. But some of our fans who are less fanatical may have looked at this year’s roster, with so many freshmen playing key roles, and thought this was a rebuilding year.

What does UofL’s expectations have to do with the debate over whether UK women’s basketball 2024-5 met their fans expectations?

NC Card, I believe Kozmas has it right …… you might want to find someplace else to argue. As a courtesy however, I will answer your question before I return you back to ignore:

Jeff and the Lady’s finished just about where I expected them to finish. They played a far more talented UK without Jada to OT before losing. They got clobbered by very talented opponents like UConn, NCST and ND. Yet, once Jeff was able to get the freshman some much needed experience and into the rotation; surprisingly we were actually in the hunt for a second place conference finish late in the regular season. In truth, they exceeded expectations.
