Copied and pasted from another board. This makes too much damn sense

"This was the 20 plus minute version of the highlights with every scoring drive for both teams. Appalachian State was athletic, had a lot of creative play calls, and had a fast, well coached defense. They absolutely should have won that game on the road, which would have been a stunning upset. They went out and played fearlessly, not at all intimidated by the setting. Two years ago, they went to OT against Tennessee and lost. Frankly, Satterfield could VERY easily have won both games. Penn state and UT got crucial breaks at just the right time. Interestingly, he was their QB coach when they won at Michigan 11 years ago. I think this guy knows what he’s doing.

He’s also making like 740 k, with a buyout of maybe 425 k. You could hire him, pay him 2.5 million, pay your coordinators over 1 million each, and still be WAY below what you would have had to pay for brohm in salary/buyout. Is it a flashy hire that the media will ooh and ahh over? No. But I think he really knows his stuff and would be hungry to win."

I’ve voiced my reasons to not hire Satterfield. The reasons I would:

- runs an exciting offense but one that is predicated on having success running the ball. I think physical line play is ultimately gets you to the top level of the sport

- consistently fields strong defenses

- is young and not paid much

My hope is that with someone like him you could then afford enough to lure a top notch recruiter like Cort Dennison back to UofL.

I know fans love wide open passing, because it is exciting to watch. But the true be told football is build on the run game and solid defense. The run game makes the passing game work. And without discipline, well you look like a Bobby 2.0 team! So a team has to have discipline, solid defense, great special teams, an offense that has a 50/50 mix of run and pass, and a mental tough coach that inspires his team by leadership as well as coaching skills. A team that wins national championships will never accept defeat.

I like how you think. Same perspective on building a winning football program.

Sorry, coming from another site but pay to go to all board.

Satterfield would be a good hire imo. He seems to be a winner. I do think every coaching search is a roll of the dice. I (like many) thought brohm was the guy . However the names that many of you mention are the names I would like to see as well.

Tony Elliott, satterfield, would be good. The one one name being looked over is Kendall Briles at Houston (rightfully so with no HC experience and a bad past at Baylor).

Good to read something besides normal boards for a while . Hope you make a good hire.
