It ended up with the NCAA being dragged into court and being told that they could no longer punish players (like Bowen) for getting paid to play college sports.

That’s how ridiculous those 6 years of purgatory UofL had to endure were…. That’s certainly the one time I wish I had a Time Machine … how I would love to be able to tell UofL (and any recruit we were after) that the only program that was going to be punished for the FBI sting was the NCAA itself.
 
Louisville is the Curt Flood of the NCAA. Flood challenged baseball’s system and suffered for it personally but he opened the door for free agency. Players today owe him a tip of the cap. Nobody would be getting big contracts today unless Flood or someone else endured that pain.

Louisville didn’t suffer alone, but the issues that led to NIL are closely linked to the Cardinals. All five-star players today should play for Louisville out of respect.
