They have kept Albany in this game, they drive and neither can finish....turnover after turnover

Disagree sort of. UAlbany kept themselves in the game with a boatload of offensive rebounds. Scrappy bunch.

I don’t disagree but, I’d still rather see them with the ball in their hands than watch RS or AM clank shots from the block. Biggest factor IMO, is the absolutely putrid defensive rebounding.

Not enough patience on offense. Poor shot selection. Too many off balance drives and shots. Ray couldn’t stay on the floor against a smaller, gritty team. Adel actually fouled the guy on the last shot. Hopefully this close game shows they need to work harder. Got to hand it to Albany, when they got down by 11, I thought we would win by 20. Maybe the team did too.

Ray being limited by fouls allowed Albany to destroy UofL on the glass. That is how the game turned. Ray has to stay on the floor.

ESPN says King had 0 turnovers and Adel had 2.

I’m talking about them driving and throwing up crap as a turnover, they suck st driving to the hoop.

Yeah, the shot selection for King is not where it needs to be. Adel made some mistakes tonight too.

Those issues wouldn't have mattered if the Cards defended the boards.

But I hear you, it's annoying. They are iso players, it's how they play. Just have to hope the get better.

My problem with it is they usually pass up an uncontested shot (and they’re both good shooters) to take a contested one because they’re not quick enough - or have a good enough handle - to get by their defender.

I think King lacks the strength to play through contact. He seems to constantly be avoiding it, and he doesn't have great control in traffic when he's doing that.

He forces a lot of his offense, I think he's putting too much pressure on himself.

I agree - balance as well. The only time he ever seems confident is shooting threes. His footwork is poor - he’s lucky he didn’t get called for traveling when he got trapped with 13 seconds left.

He has a nice quick release on his shot when he's set. I also agree, he looks solid around the 3 pt line. He's so young I hate to corner him into being a specialist but it would probably be in the team's best interest to have him as a 3 pt specialist.

What may have gone unnoticed is that King had 7 rebounds and Adel only 3. Both of these guys need to help rebound not just score points. We were out rebounded 52-37. That won’t bode well against bigger, physical teams.

No doubt needs to be a team effort, but really UofL's rebounding will almost always come down to Ray. Adel has gotten away from some of the things that I liked earlier in his career. This is the impact of next level thinking - I don't blame these guys for trying to showcase their game. But, as far as team goals go, the Cards need Adel to be willing to mix it up a little more on both ends of the court - he's the top player, he can do more than just score. It's a long year hoping he gets back to a more well-rounded effort in all areas.

Already have one in McMahon!
I don't think anyone is suggesting that King be a three point specialist - only that he play to his current strengths within this roster and offense. He's supposed to be playing the 2 but plays like he is at the three. He obviously is capable of more than shooting - he just needs to pick better spots but, he's gotten way better about letting the game come to him from last year.

No knock on Ryan but, he's a three point specialist because that's 99% of the way that he can score at this level.

Well don’t forget Malik Williams wants to shoot 3’s and lately Sutton and Nwora as well. Add in Snider and Adel, I think we have enough guys shooting 3’s. Need some guys like King and Adel to rebound.

King and Adel are basically the same: 6'7" wings who hunt shots and think of defense and rebounding as after thoughts. Which is kind of ok if you have one of those guys on the court. Deng is better due to a nod in athelitcism and confidence, but having them both on the floor at the same time gives you diminishing returns and is a detriment.

We should have one of their spots lend minutes to more of a "dirty work" defender and rebounder. Perhaps start splitting minutes with Sutton? He should play more, if only for the mentality he brings as opposed to the King vs Adell shot hunters in tandem approach.

Especially if neither wants to make others on the team better thru their play.

I agree with this but the real question is how will a player like King accept being moved to the bench? In years past, a coach would just do it and you accepted it. In today’s world, where it is me first, some kids react negatively. Adel is probably gone but I think we need King for next year. We wouldn’t be having these discussions if players bought into the team first attitude. I’m not saying he’s selfish, he just thinks we need him to score. We also need him to rebound and play defense.

Padget too easy on these guys...need to get back to RP attitude. If you don't play defense or rebound, you don't play. Both our recent successful NBA guys like Rozier and Mitchell learned to rebound and play defense first. Go grab the ball works better than waiting for someone to pass it to you.

Our defense from these guys (especially King) leaves a ton to be desired. VJ needs to gain another 15-20 lbs of muscle this off-season. Deng needs to clean up his ball skills, he's horrible in the open court and sucks trying to attack the rim with the left-hand dribble.
