I know you’re referring to football and basketball, but Stanford is championship-level in just about every other sport! 26 directors cup championships..
Imagine how Syracuse feels. Their non-revenue teams travel to Stanford, Dallas, and Miami. That’s brutal. I think a much larger reorganization is coming at some point…though not soon enough. Right now the big money schools don’t care because they’re raking in money. Perhaps football and basketball will cleave off and the non-revenue sports can form reasonable regional conferences.
SMU has the potential to be really good in football. Cal & Stanford brings nothing but a few eyeballs to the ACC. Cincinnati & WVU would be a better ACC fit than any of the west coast teams. Getting rid of the California teams and replacing them with WVU & Cincinnati would make for a better ACC.
I agree. I initially threw SMU under the bus because the ACC made them our basketball rival this year (which makes no sense). We need better conference rivals and the California schools don't make the grade. WVU and Cincy would be much better for the ACC than the California schools.
Just like Oregon, USC and Ucla don’t make sense being in the Big 10. While they bring more athletic clout the fact they are in the west coast - it just doesn’t make sense. But hey, the NCAA has publicly stated that it is all about the student-athlete. So all of the teams traveling across country must be great for those student-athletes.
Stanford brings some good women’s programs that makes it interesting. They have really good volleyball and basketball in women’s sports. They had an average year in basketball this year but they are bringing in one of the top freshmen classes in the country next season. California is the one that has little to offer but I do agree I would rather have Cincinnati and WVU.
