UVA may have lost to a legit team last night, GW very well could be Top 20ish type of a team.

That said them starting the season with a loss has me reconsidering the make-up of the ACC this year.

I was thinking UNC/UVA/Duke were the top 3, and it may very well play out that way.

However, I'm now more open minded to a shake up. FSU/ND/UofL - these are 3 teams that might make some noise.

Can we get some thoughts on this w/o being too big of homers? LOL

Discussion about ACC Teams ONLY please!

I agree. We are much improved. That is mainly due to our three Freshmen Dwayne Bacon, Malik Beasley and Terrence Mann. Louisville is still Louisville and Notre Dame is obviously good. The thing I've always done in regards to ACC Basketball and especially this year is to quit predicting it. The ACC top to bottom is the best conference and it isn't even close. We had 5 Sweet 16 teams last year which was more than any conference.

But the thing about this year is the middle to bottom of the conference has gotten better. We are one of the most improved teams. But you also have Syracuse, Pitt, Georgia Tech is improved, Miami is going to be good, Wake is better, Clemson is better. I don't think there will really be any BAD teams in the league this year. Virginia Tech is probably the worst team in the league.

Duke and UNC you can certainly stick in there, but the next tier of teams will be impossible to predict. But we'll know more as we see these teams go through the non-conference schedule.

Schmidty I think you guys are absolutely loaded this year and could have a break through season.

Have you all played any games yet? On paper you all have so much talent. Your top FR is a big time scorer, Bacon....

Could be ACC FR of the year.

FSU and the Cards are my early dark horse favorite teams to finish in the top tier of the ACC. Both should finish in the top 6 IMO.

We played Nichols State on Sunday and won 109-62. I watched the game and was very impressed. Nichols State is not a bad team and they have a Junior and Senior laden lineup. Bacon had 23 points and Beasley had 21. Bacon first and Beasley third most points by a Freshman in their 1st games in school history.

Basically we have tons of athleticism and Hamilton is having them play a very fast style. They push the ball up the court on every defensive rebound, turnover or blocked shot. They simply beat Nichols State down the court for layups, dunks, alley oops and wide open 3s. Very fun to watch.

It will be interesting to see how we match up against teams that may be able to control the tempo a little bit better than Nichols State could. It is a lot different when you have to execute in the Half Court more often and defend for 25 to 30 seconds. But there is no doubt our guys want to run and play fast.

Good post, Schmidy. Sounds about right. I watched the Hoos last night and left very unimpressed. They can't rebound, for one thing. Brogden is all world as always but that's about it. Hamilton is also famous for squandering talent, however. If he has learned his lessons, you guys should, on paper, be a force.

UNC also looked dam near marginal - no doubt a bad game for them - while Duke looked impressive and simply loaded with talent. I haven't seen anyone else yet. Wait, lol - I watched the slobberfest of NC State, lol.

When you consider Notre Dame, you guys, Duck, UNC, and us - who most of us believe will surprise the crap out of the league - you have some serious strength already. Miami will be a major player too.

dook is trying to make the Conference look bad tonight. Along with Kensucky they may set hoops back a decade with tonight's game.

I expect the Cards and Noles to earn good NCAA seeds this year. UVa has stumbled early before and lost a LOT this past year but will still likely make it. No clue as to their seeding.

I do expect some more wars with you guys and the Noles this year. As long as no blood flows I'll be happy. :)

I don't know if we can score the ball enough to stay with you guys this year. However, a couple of our bigs have really improved this summer so there might be more paint resistance than you guys have seen from us compared to the last couple years we've played. You guys really had your way with us on the interior but Onuaku and Jaylen Johnson have some real size and defensive ability to bang/rebound.

Looking forward to it - you guys are the measuring stick in the ACC IMO.

Will be interesting, however with the reduction in shot clock it may be a bit more difficult for the stall ball approach teams.

Asking politely to keep to thread topic of ACC teams and not drift thread into the direction many other threads go.

Thanks!
Yeah, I agree but you know the UofK trolls won't listen. They hijack most every thread on this board regardless if it's including UofK in the topic or not.

Another ACC team that intrigues me is Syracuse. I don't know a great deal about the Orange but they do have a Hall of Fame coach. I expect the Orange to be tough too.

Yes they are scary. I do like the fact that the UK frontcourt is much weaker than it has been.
Definitely true, but the good news is that Skal was a relative no-show and he is pegged by most as a top 2 pick in the draft. He needs to get stronger and tougher, but to have that type of star power down low will help later in the year after he develops. Towns didn't look great to start last year either.

FSU looked really good last night, they will be a tough matchup for anyone in the league. I think 5 losses will win the ACC this year.

Another program that looks like they re-load instead of rebuilding, they scored 50 in the 2nd half last night against a respectable St.Bonny program that was one game away from the big dance last season. They cannot be left out of any discussions.

Syracuse has a really good FR class anchored by Richardson. It looks like they've got three guys that can light it up on their roster, making them a really difficult team to cover.

One thing about Boheim - he always uses his talent. Freshmen or upperclassmen, it doesn't matter. He'll put his best ballers out there and let them play.

From what I gather, Duke and UNC scare us most? That seems to be consensus. I think just about all of us were pleasantly surprised that, after the games started being played, none of the ACC teams were intimidating in any way. Meanwhile our own team shocked the crap out of a lot of us, lol - for the best reasons.

It's early. Nothing now is what it will be, lol.

We will visit the ancient Chinese curse I'm sure. The Conference will live in interesting times. :)

A larger view of our conference suggests that we will at some point - perhaps this season - match the 11 invitations to the Tourney which the Big East had.

Definitely possible Senore. One day I'd like to hear a broadcaster refer to the East Regional as The ACC Invitational.

Miami is very good from what I have seen they will make some noise big time. The big's they have play very well and they can shot 3's very well as a team.

The ACC is going to be very deep this year. There isn't a whole lot of difference in the best team and the 10th team. There are only a couple of real conference cream puffs this year. It's going to be a crazy ride!!
