League Notes

With just four regular season weekends and three conference series left for each team, Louisville (19-2 in ACC play) maintains a five-game lead over Florida State in the Atlantic Division while Miami (15-6) holds a 4 ½-game lead over second-place North Carolina in the Coastal Division.

In the latest NCAA RPI, the ACC is led with four teams in the Top 16 spots: No. 3 Miami, No. 7 Florida State, No. 11 Louisville, and No. 16 North Carolina. Three more squads – No. 26 Georgia Tech, No. 32 Virginia, and No. 33 Notre Dame – gives the league seven teams in the Top 40, tied for the most of any conference.

A handful of ACC players garnered midseason accolades this week. Four players – Florida State’s Billy Strode, Louisville’s Zack Burdi, Miami’s Bryan Garcia, and Virginia’s Josh Sborz were named to the Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List. Duke’s Kenny Koplove, Georgia Tech’s Brandon Gold, Louisville’s Brendan McKay, Virginia’s Kevin Doherty, Virginia Tech’s Sean Keselica and Alex Perez, and Wake Forest’s Will Craig were all included on the Olerud Watch List. The Brooks Wallace Award Watch List included Clemson’s Eli White, Louisville’s Sutton Whiting, and Virginia’s Daniel Pinero.

This weekend, #12 Florida State travels south to face #13 Miami in a renewal of their rivalry. The Hurricanes will be honoring former coach and College Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Ron Fraser by unveiling a statue before the series opener between the two teams that have made a combined 44 trips to the College World Series.

Seventeen of the 18 conference games this weekend will be streamed by ESPN3, andSaturday’s game between the Seminoles and Hurricanes will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
