simply, what if andre magee's recruiting style enabled us to win the championship? what if his efforts got us the one final piece that put us over the top and without him we would not have won the championship? would you rather have all those incredible memories that will last a lifetime and deal with a embarrassing situation that will fade over time or would you give all that back not to be in the position we are today?

i personally will take the championship and accept the embarrassment. sorry but winning is everything. cheat, win, ask for forgiveness after they give you the trophy. believe me the feeling you have towards this situation will fade. the memories you have of the championship run will never go away. I've watched the alley oops to harrel hundreds of times. goosebumps every time i hear the crowd explode. which i still say is the single loudest cheer in school history.

Apparently you haven't seen the picture of the girls. I doubt his recruiting efforts (if this turns out to be true) secured any top talent for this basketball program. He might have run a few off though.

I wonder how good our recruiting may have been without McGee in charge of entertainment...
I'd jump off the 2nd street bridge before I'd get in bed with nightstalkers I've seen in some of these pictures

i'm sure as 17, 18 and 19 year olds, looks are probably not their priority. and the guardians are probably treating is like vegas, what goes on the recruiting trail stays on the recruiting trail. i'm sure hormones take over. and isn't there an old rule, never pass it up for free?

a bigger question i should have asked was for anyone calling for pitino's removal, would you also give back the title?

I would think the exact opposite in this case. You have these kids who have been cuddled as super star players and told how great they are. They're going to be picky. They're going to want the TEN to get busy with, not the four.

I'm with you, CueCard. Put this lineup in front of a major recruit and I think the1st words that would pop up in their mind would be, "Is THAT the best you can do?"

Not to sound crude and not condoning any behavior that might have occurred but these hook-ups were just that. To those who participated (Lyles, Blakeney, etc.) it was just another piece of trim or notch on their bedpost. In the long run it meant very little to them other than instant self gratification and exposing their selfish "me" syndrome that sadly permeates throughout our culture today. It's actually very similar to many grown men who lose lose their mind and their morals when they go on business trips, etc. Ever seen the strip bar signs during the Farm Machinery Shows here in town? And these are grown men with families! They're not going to Trixie's for the food buffet!

As evidence, look where the two above mentioned players went to school. McGee didn't give the Cards a recruiting advantage. I am sure there's a good chance those same guys got "taken care of" at LSU and Ohio State but probably by a university coed where no money was exchanged. For many immature recruits getting laid is probably on their bucket list for each and every official visit, worrying about their academic major, practice facilities, meal plans, etc is secondary.

Sad, but probably true.

Sadly, I suspect you speak words of wisdom and truth.

For me it is who else was involved that could move this to another level. If other assistant coaches were involved that were heavily involved in recruiting then take down the banner. That makes it a program issue, not an individual one, which is unacceptable to me. We all embraced the fact Louisville did it the right way and here we are not doing it the right way. For me if McGee acted alone, if at all, then it is a poor hire. If there are others then the entire dynamics changes.

Well said.

If we won the championship by breaking NCAA rules with more than McGee acting alone (if he bought hookers for recruits, players, and family members), then I would be in favor of taking the banner down too.

There's one minor issue though, it's never happened. No program has ever had a title taken away. There have been several lose their final four spots but no titles have been vacated. Not to my knowledge anyway. It sure seems that once you win the thing, it sticks.

I'd say UNC's titles are in jeopardy much more than UofL's. We're talking about relatively insignificant dollar amounts of impermissible benefits vs. entire rosters being inelligible because they didn't complete college courses. By the time 2016 is over, we may very well see a title taken down, hopefully not UofL's.

Glad that this question will never have to be answered.

Feels good to be in the know

Lies hurt, but they are still lies none the same

It would take more than what's been released for me to want to take the banner down. No one can say with a straight face "Shay and Rod-Ni are the reasons the Louisville Cardinals are the 2013 National Champions." Just no, lol. No.

My answer is in line with Pitino's: let the investigators investigate, punish if & when necessary, and for now let's play & watch basketball.

I hate making relative arguments, but the Miami Shapiro scandal involved over $2 million being paid to at least 72 players over a 10 year period. Miami got a 1 year post season ban and lost 3 scholarships (isn't 83 the total?). At this point for Louisville, this is 5 confirmed players over 4 years, a single confirmed wire transfer for $200, and some confirmed ho's. For argument's sake, let's say it really was $10k. It's ugly and it's horrible and it's certainly embarrassing, but I'm not ready to take the banner down and give it to Shay & Rod-Ni, lol.

This is pretty much it. The worst it could be.

After reading Jalen Rose's comments, imagine how many banners would get taken down if seasons were vacated for star players being handed women on the recruiting visits
