5th year seniors

I don't know the answer to this but to think that they could, and still choose to play in college, just isn't realistic. The only way I see this as even being remotely possible is if Pitino sold them on having a better chance at the NBA vs playing abroad, but that's a sell worthy of Zig Ziglar's admiration. Besides, it's probably a mute point as it may not be long before the 5th year transfer is no longer available...

Playing overseas puts your career in a black hole. Sure you get paid but the players marketing ability goes down significantly. And if/when the goal is to land in a league where they will gladly exchange a few points for a few more jerseys sold...not very smart move. Best move is to keep your college exposure going like Trez did. That way the "experts" can't keep making excuses as to why they are selecting potential over talent. I imagine a fan of the NBA is also a big fan of college.

So for a guy like Lee, who's always known he can play with the best. (What's not to like about his game or size? Fluid 6'6" SG with sweet stats. ) UofL and college keeps maximum exposure going for his game.

The other incentive for a OAD to leave college so fast...before anyone finds out they really can't play unless it's against guys 6 inches shorter and still in HS.

That is the reality in some cases, but the biggest reason kids leave early is because the NBA wants them. The scouts think they know how a player will develop and take the risk. The downside to older players though is that NBA GMs don't like to draft them because of the perceived shorter playing window (they have less time to use that player). They may sign them as free agents on short contracts, but they wont get drafted.

Not even remotely close. These kids have a degree in hand. If they don't make it in the pros. They will make it in life!

Mid Major coaches don't like the rule and want it changed, per this article...

Have you seen Damion Lee play?

How is it not realistic that these guys choose to play college beside a career overseas. Much like OAD guys choose to play college besides going the Brandon Jennings route. What is the different in those situations? Both turn down overseas to play in college.

And the NBA is filled with young guys who can't play after spending a year in college. NBA drafts on potential and the hope they get a stud. A guy like Anthony Davis everyone knew he would be a star, but you have an Anthony Bennett who was drafted stickly on potential.

I think the NBA is told who to want. So they take the kid with the most marketing built-in. Doesn't matter cause they'll just end up trading them anyways.

Yeah, I've seen him play. He's a scorer, that's for sure. But, obviously the NBA didn't see anything in him after 4 years of college. What else do you think they're going to discover about him that they don't already know? If you're going to play overseas anyway, why prolong college? Unless, you're going pro in something other than sports.

The NBA is a business and putting ppl in the seats and selling jerseys is the prime objective.

I just don't see the evidence of this. If they could play at the next level, they would...
You're applying the OAD mindset--get to the NBA asap--to a completely different situation. If there's no indication that either kid had NBA potential, why not spend this year earning money playing ball somewhere? If not the NBA, then abroad? They've already got degrees, so you know that's not really a motive.

The only logical conclusion is that they simply wanna get better so that they can earn the most money doing what they love. There's no "evidence" or rationale otherwise.

"Elite program", my a$$...

Sometimes these guys need a bigger stage to shine. Other times, they know it is the end of their playing career, so they want to go out on top or just have the extra experience. I don't fault any player (first year or fifth year) trying to improve their stock and/or just have fun. Also, it could be that they like college so much, they want an extra year. I know I took an extra year...and greatly enjoyed myself. Lots of reason to prolong college, even if that puts off $$$ for a year.

Few D1 athletes have a sports career, but look how many play. It can be a drain on time/resources/social life, but if they so choose, more power to them.

He wanted a chance to play in the NCAAT, improve his game, and get the chance to in a Power 5 league. I wouldn't look at it as prolonging college he's getting an education something that can't be taken away from him. I personally think he gets a chance to make a NBA roster. Do you feel the HArrison's are better players than him?

No, I dont. And if he keeps up his current play, he may well get a chance somewhere.
