Hey guys, lots of info here on Louisville football recruiting. Enjoy.
- Madison (Ala.) James Clemens defensive end LaBryan Ray released a top 12 Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and USC a few days ago. With some national powerhouse programs, it wouldn't seem like Louisville has a great shot here, but I've been told that UofL feels better about their chances than one would think. The UofL staff is very familiar with Ray's older brother because they recruited him when the staff was at WKU. Ace state of Alabama recruiter L.D. Scott is recruiting Ray, and he's going to continue to recruit Ray hard.
- A name I just continue and continue to hear on the UofL recruiting front is Navarre (Fla.) offensive tackle Nick Brahms. He visited Louisville a couple of months ago, and the Cards are having Chris Klenakis, who doesn't recruit the sunshine state, persuade Brahms to Louisville. His name is picking up steam though as Oregon just offered.
- Conyers (Ga.) Salem wide receiver Justin Marshall is another guy that I hear the UofL staff feels pretty good about. He released a top ten of Louisville, Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn, Miss St, Maryland, WVU, Purdue, NC State, and UNC. Louisville is pitching to Marshall that he could be "the guy" in their offense and they'll utilize his skillset specifically, rather than him going to another school where he's just another guy that will get the ball in a system if he's lucky.
- Former 2014 Louisville (Ky.) Seneca defensive end Lloyd Tubman signed with the Cats, but then got into trouble with the law. I'll leave out those details. Anyways, there were reports that he's going to end up at Louisville, and that might be the case, but I'm told that it'll be nothing more than him walking on, if it does happen.
- Keep an eye on Jaelin Carter at DuPont Manual in Louisville. He's a big 6-foot-2, 202-pound wide receiver that can play multiple positions. I hear the UofL staff likes him. He doesn't have any offers at this point.
- Quick note on Malik Cunningham, Louisville's QB commit for the 2017 class - he's not as tall as you'd like at QB. He's about 6-foot-1, and three-quarters. But what I hear that the Louisville staff likes is that Cunningham has a high release, which helps his lack of height.
- There's a lot of talk about satellite camps since the NCAA is allowing them once again. I don't think Louisville has big plans for this summer with regards to satellite camps, but I hear that they'll be at West Georgia's camp. They might also go to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and possibly even make a stop in Alabama.
- Speaking of Florida, the Cards recruit the state pretty hard. Alabama is all L.D. Scott, and most of Georgia is Tony Grantham. But for Florida, they have several coaches recruiting the area. Kolby Smith has from Northeast florida over to northwest (Jacksonville over to the panhandle, Tony Grantham has the Orlando area (where UCF is at), Nick Petrino is recruiting the Tampa area (my backyard, where USF is at), and then Cort Dennison and Keith Heyward are recruiting south Florida. Heyward was the former DB coach at USC so his ties are mostly in Los Angeles, but I hear he's a really good recruiter. I haven't heard his name too much from recruits so far, but I think he's going to do well down there. Dennison and Heyward are the defensive backs coach, and they're are a lot of talented defensive backs down there.
- For some of those Florida guys, Rivals250 safety Brian Edwards was once a Louisville commitment about a year ago, and I've heard that he's close to recommitting. He's still picking up new offers, recently from Nebraska and LSU, so that has him holding off. Another guy is three-star safety Lyn Strange and I would say that Louisville is definitely the team to beat. Rivals250 defensive end Guy Thomas is being recruited by the Louisville staff hard. He has a lot of big offers but keep an eye on him.
- Two other guys to keep an eye on as possible commits are Tennessee safety Kaleb Oliver and Mississippi running back Reginald Hunter.
