The recruiting game is fluid. One day in December a three-star defensive tackle commits to Virginia then days later, stil in December, he de-commits from Virginia. That was the story for Terion "Tank" Sugick. He committed to Bronco Mendenhall and the Cavaliers on December third then walked back that pledge on December 29th. Sugick stated in his decommitment post that his early commitment was an emotional one and that he needs to be more stategic. I'm paraphrasing but that was the jist of it and he told cardinalsports.com that he will slow things down and that his next decision will be his last.
"(Right now) I’m just enjoying the recruiting process and my next decision will be permanent!," said Sugick.
Louisville is trying to make him decide to sign with them and their energy has been appreciated. Shadon Brown and Mark Ivey have been working in tandem to make Sugick feel like a priority and to get him on campus for a visit. Those efforts appear to be working.
"They show major interest. They make time to check in on me every week. They're also familiar with this area because one of my teammates, Tim Dawson, is an early grad up there," explained Sugick.
Timothy Dawson is one of Lousiville's most covetted offensive line recruits from the 2020 class and the Cards' staff is doing well to recruit National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland. Like Dawson, Sugick plans to be an early enrollee.
"They tell me if I put in the work I'll play early as a three technique and some nose. I'm going to try to get down there in the Spring for a visit," remarked Surgick.
Louisville needs depth at his position and adding an early enrollee like Sugick would be a solid step in that direction.
Dave's Deliberations: In an earlier discussion with Sugick he told me that four main factors in chosing a school are the depth chart, on and off field atmosphere, coaches who care about him being more than a football player, and good academics. A day later he committed to Virginia. I'm not sure how many of those boxes the Cavs' football program checked but it probably wasn't all of them. Right now it looks like Loiusville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia are the teams in hot pursuit but it's still early and after his short lived commitment to Virginia I would excpect him to wait until late in the process to make his next decision so more schools could enter the race. That being said, Louisivlle is definitely a serious contender and should be in this one until the end.
